This Day in History February 25, 1919

Well, I think you will find this story quite apropos.  It was on this date in 1919 that Oregon became the first state to levy a fuel tax.  It was only a penny per gallon, but of course, things went on from there.  In fact, within 10 years, all 48 states and District of Columbia followed suit.  Supposedly, the money was used (and it probably was in the beginning) for improving and building roads.  Who know what it is used for now?


Interestingly enough, $342,000 was raised the first year.
