Music Monday--Brad Paisley Tacoma Dome Concert Review (Scotty and Band Perry too!)

Finally, another Music Monday.  I was just too tired to post this last week.  Last Saturday, February 11, my daughter and I had the supreme joy of attending the Brad Paisley Virtual Reality Tour.  I bought these tickets long ago.  I wasn't going to, but when I discovered that the Band Perry and Scotty McCreery were coming with him, I knew I wanted to go.

We waited out in the cold trying to win backstage passes, but we finally couldn't stand it any more.  So we had to go in.  We had fairly good seats even though we were not on the floor.  You will be able to see some great shots.  The food left a little to be desired, but all things considered, it was pretty par for the course.

I was grateful that the show started on time.  It had been so funny to see all these little girls who were going crazy over Scotty McCreery.

And, well, I guess he is pretty cute--in a teenage sort of way.  He knew how to work the crowd.  And at least he looks like he has grown up some!

My favorite thing about him is that he is a Christian, and he is not shy about proclaiming his faith. In time, I do believe that he will be a force to reckon with!

Next came the Band Perry.  If anyone knows me, they know that I was not an instant fan of theirs.  Their first single Hip to My Heart was really annoying for me when it was released, and until they sang If I Die Young, I always flipped the radio station as fast as I could!

They are now one of my favorites!

And they can sure give a fantastic show!  Their version of Fat-Bottomed Girls was absolutely unbelievable!

I look forward to the day when they will be the headliner.  My daughter is a huge fan of theirs.  She even said before the show that they were bigger than Brad Paisley.  I had to correct her.

Next and finally came Brad Paisley.  I think I have described my feelings about Brad Paisley here before.  I didn't like Brad Paisley in the beginning. And my friend, Martin, can't stand him.  The first Paisley song I ever liked was Then.  And it was his response to Taylor Swift's award win that endeared him to me.  So I became a "closet Brad Paisley" fan.  There were several songs of his that grew on me.  And I liked the story of him and his wife relationship.

I was blown away by Brad Paisley's concert!  When he said virtual reality, he meant it!  Even down to Carrie Underwood!

Indeed this tended to fool the eye!

I loved what he had to say about women trying to feminize men.

And I loved how close he got the audience and how many autographed guitars he gave away!

His energy amazed me, and his guitar-playing is out of this world!

Scotty McCreery and Band Perry both sang with him.

All I can say is that I am no longer a closet Brad Paisley fan.  I bought his greatest hits album, and I am currently listening to it!

If he ever comes to your city, go!  It's worth it!

Music Monday--Challenge Week #12

I told you I would have a couple to review tonight, and I do!  Aren't you proud of me???

This is my first CD to review.  Yes, it's Brad Paisley again, and I have to admit I liked this CD from start to finish.  I still wish Brad would go back to what he used to do instead of being silly and writing dumb songs.

I can relate to Long Sermon.  Who has not been in church on a beautiful Sunday morning when it seems that the service will never end?  Me!!  Me Neither is a really cute song.  I love all the lines he uses in the song to pick the girl up, and he always plays it off like he was testing her or joking around.  These kinds of songs I do like.  Who Needs Pictures is a heart-breaking, sweet song, and Don't Breathe is also pretty sweet and tender.  He Didn't Have to Be always makes me cry.  It was a big hit for him, and it always makes me think of my daughter and how maybe someday she will be in that position.  It Never Woulda Worked Out Anyway is another funny song.  And another sad song is Holdin' Onto You.  Another sad song is I've Been Better.  His next song was another big hit--We Danced.  I have always loved this song.  Even before I knew who Brad Paisley was.  His songs are so sweet on this album--even the sad ones.  Another funny song is Sleepin' on the Foldout.  I think most married men can relate to this.  I think those of us who have lived in Texas can relate to Cloud of Dust.  Then he moves on to his instrumental song--I really enjoy these. It's called Nervous Breakdown.  And he ends with In the Garden.  Oh, he needs to release a gospel country album!  He is so good at those.  I wonder why he has changed so much.



I said I have another one to review.  I started listening to this a long time ago.  It is one of my favorite CD's from one of my favorite singers. I have loved Michael Crawford for so long, and I don't think there is a single song on this album that is not good.  It's nice to hear him sing an upbeat song like Any Dream Will Do.  He is wonderfully romantic in All I Ask of You.  I think he could have played Raoul in his younger days in Phantom.  Wishing You Were Somehow Here Again is one of my favorite songs, and he truly makes it his own even though is was originally a female song.  And the Money Kept Rolling In  is really nice to hear from him.  So often, he only sings those wonderful romantic ballads.  He used to sing fast songs--I always loved him in Barnum.  I was unfamiliar with Nothing Like You've Ever Known until he sang it--great rendition!  And the poignancy of Tell Me On a Sunday truly comes through.  Then we come to a very dramatic song  of his--he generally opens his concerts  with Gethsemane.  I realize that this song is not completely true to Jesus and the Garden, but I was challenged in Bible college to listen to the song and reflect on Jesus's humanity.  We as Christians often forget it.  I have to say, he does a phenomenal job--no one does it better that I have ever heard.  Phantom of the Opera is only ruined by the soprano who cannot hit the high notes.  And his version of Music of the Night is not his finest.  The finest I ever heard was when he sang it live (I saw him in concert in 1998).  I am not truly fond of Memory, however he sings it well.  I still prefer it in its original context with Elaine Paige singing it.  I like hearing him sing a song where he has to relax and go into his pop voice--Only You.  Then he sings a duet with his daughter--Other Pleasures/First Man You'll Remember.  You can tell he loves that.  And he ends with Love Changes Everything.  It just doesn't get much better than this!!

I am leaving a link to a video--I haven't heard this in a very long time!  It is not the exact version on the CD, but I enjoy it.

Music Monday--Challenge Week #9

Goodness, I thought I wouldn't get to this tonight.  My computer has been so slow!  And with our snow days last week, I thought I may not have an entire CD listened to!

I got this CD from the library, and I am very happy to report that this is my favorite Brad Paisley CD!  I may just have to buy it.  I think I liked every song to a some degree.

It starts out with Two Feet of Topsoil, a cute little song that is typical Brad Paisley about breaking up and missing the girl, but it is not too silly--it's clever.  He then goes onto the song that featured several stars in the video--including his future wife:  I'm Gonna Miss Her."    I think mot  men could relate to this song!  No woman should do what the woman does in this song!

Part II deals with meeting his wife and getting married, etc.  And then you get to Wrapped Around (really cute) and Two People Fell in  Love.  Moving on to Come On Over  Tonight and  You'll Never Leave Harlan Alive (a really good country song!).

I Wish You'd Stay is poignant and All You Really Need  is Love is very funny.  He then goes to a straight instrumental song that is pretty neat  Munster Rag.  You Have That Effect on Me is very sweet.  (I think his  wife influenced him A LOT on this album).

He ends with  Too Country which is reminiscent of his current single.  If you like country, you'll like it.  And the final song is The Old Rugged Cross.  It is live from the Opry, and I wish he  would release a  gospel album!  I love the way he sings the old hymns.

So this is really a good CD, and I hope that  one day Brad will go back to his roots and sing more songs like this rather than his current album style!
