Freebie Blitz: "Manless in Montclair" by Amy Holman Edelman (1/8-1//10)

Manless in Montclair by Amy Holman Edelman

Link: http://www.amazon.com/Manless-in-Montclair-ebook/dp/B00AI2FNV6/

Free days: 8-10 January

Chick lit/women's fiction/romance

Blurb: Being short with big boobs means living life off-balance. Isabel knows this all too well; at five feet nothing with a tendency to tip over in heels, she's struggled for twenty-five years to make clothes, careers and boyfriends fit. Enter Michael. Divorced father, recovering alcoholic and fifteen years her senior--he was the last guy she thought would make the cut. But when he proposed over a pastrami sandwich in a NYC deli on the anniversary of their first date, Isabel knew, improbably, that he was the one. Fifteen mostly happy years and two kids later, Isabel walks into her living room to discover her husband dead on the floor, leaving her a widow at forty-one. At Micheal's funeral, a guest solemnly informs her that the official mourning period for a Jewish widow is thirty days. At the moment, Isabel can't imagine a time when she will stop grieving. Not helping the process is this: as a single mom living in the very married suburbs, for the first time in fifteen years Isabel once again just doesn't fit in. It takes her four year-old daughter's request for a new daddy to set Isabel on a journey through online dating, shifty matchmakers and painfully orchestrated single dinners. But after endless dates, a torrid affair with an unemployed, passive-aggressive neighbor and a story on page three of the New York Daily News, Isabel begins to realize that another man may not be the answer and, surprisingly, that's when things begin to change for the better...

Bio: Amy Holman Edelman lives in New Jersey with her husband, children and Irish Jack Russell, Roxy. She is the also author of The Little Black Dress ('97).

Excerpt:

Our blue and white paisley duvet lay crumpled on the bed, but Michael was no longer under it. The air conditioner beckoned me with a loud rumble, and I stood in front of it for a moment, letting the stale breeze cool my skin. Sufficiently chilled, I turned and walked back down the hall into the heavier air of our living room. It was then that I saw him, lying at the foot of the green overstuffed chair, a few inches away from his favorite perch on the well-worn, beige linen sofa. Except for the small pool of blood that had formed on the rug beside his head, he looked as if he might still be sleeping.

I ran past Michael to the far end of the room, my heart beating hard in my throat. I rummaged through the papers and notebooks that covered my desk in search of the portable phone. Finding it, I dialed 911. After what felt like enough time to grow old in, a dispassionate voice finally came on to the line.

“I think my husband is dead,” I said, shaking. There was no thought. Just words and sweat and panic. “What should I do?”

I don't know about you, but I love finding free kindle books, and this is one you just may want to check out. But don't delay!

Guest Post by Misty Wright, Author of "Assassin's Love"--Free on Kindle!

What Makes a Good Romance Story?

Nobody knows why a romance story becomes so popular in the heart of every reader and writer. No one knows how love develops in every lover. Consistently, this is not the work to be done. Love takes time, and to achieve the right moment, you need to know what love really is. A good romance story is very important to all readers who need comfort in their lives today. It can make broken-hearted lovers escape from their own reality and find the answers to their problems in the book. This is how books work. Every chapter and line in the story is very interesting, and it’s so amazing and full of excitement about what will happen next. You cannot stop reading until you read the end of the story. A good romance story is full of mystery until you find the answer in a happy ending.
Until now, the romance story was one
of the best books in the world, in all libraries and bookstores worldwide. Most movies came from the books, and it became more realistic when flashed on the big screen. Women like reading books because, as we know, women want a fairy tale love story in their own lives. A very popular book that became a movie is “Twilight.” Everyone knows the story of Bella Swan and Edward Cullen; it is a story of love between a human and a vampire. “Dear John,” is a movie that hit the big screen and become a blockbuster. It is a story of a soldier who fell in love, but although he failed in the end, all of his love was worth it. And my favorite romance story is “The Vow,” which is a movie based on a true story about how love conquers all, even though it may seem as though there’s no hope anymore.
A good romance story is so important to every reader wherever you go or whatever you do. Whether you are at work or on vacation, whether you are young or old, or whether you are a student, driver, teacher, farmer, vendor, businessman, housewife, husband, or a professional, a good romance story makes you become more interested in reading. It also makes lovers more knowledgeable about what love really is, it makes people interested in reading and writing novels, and it makes everything in your life full of fun and excitement.

Some people read romance books because they think that when they read a book, it feels like it is real. It touches the heart, it makes you feel different emotions, and you will find that you like it. Some say that when they read, they see the story visually as if it is painted in the wall like a drawing, and they think they are in the book. Others say that every word you read makes it as if you can make impossible things into a reality: you can build a castle in your own garden, you can choose your perfect match, and you can make your life amazing without working. You can just read and write and it becomes real to you. It can merge the two worlds of fantasy and reality into one world.

An interesting moment in a good romance story begins in a single word, line, and chapter, and you expand it until it becomes a good romance story. Fantasy or not, good romance stories touch every emotion and make you feel as though your dreams have come true.

Sykosa by Justin Ordoñez Free Kindle Book--One Day Only! May 4, 2012

FREE One Day Only: Sykosa, Part I: Junior Year by Justin Ordoñez
"Sykosa makes for some compelling reading. Older teens and adults alike will enjoy Ordoñez 's tale for its humor, realism and relatable protagonist." -- Kirkus Indie Review

Sykosa (that’s “sy”-as-in-“my” ko-sa) is a junior in high school. She belongs to an exclusive clique of girls called the “Queens.” The leader is her best friend Niko. Their friendship has been strained lately because Tom—Sykosa's first boyfriend—has gotten all serious about making her his pretty Prom princess. That is if he ever gets around to asking her. Before Prom, there’s a party at Niko’s cottage where parental supervision will be nil. He wants to have sex. She doesn’t. He sometimes acts like that doesn’t matter.

It matters.

Sykosa has a secret she has never told anyone about. Although, some people—Tom included—know anyway. It happened last year and it was big and she’ll cry if she talks about it so she’s done talking about it, okay? Never mind, it’s nobody's business. Except it keeps happening, and it never stops. She doesn’t want to deal with it. He does. She sometimes acts like that doesn’t matter.

It matters.

The Reviews Are In

Syskosa by Justin Ordoñez is like a fresh breeze in the YA literature world. It is raw, blunt and real. When many of the YA books written are from fantasy or paranormal genres, Sykosa by Justin Ordonez writes about the reality young people face when becoming of age. It is well written, very direct and keeps nothing hidden. — IngaKS

Ordoñez expertly captures the inner worlds of both genders with ease. — Jill Allen, Clarion ForeWord Review

Gritty, intense and definitely not a book I'll forget! — Ajoop. S

Ordoñez made a serious attempt at something near impossible and hardly described in western culture: the inner angst of a teenage girl. — CuriosityWins

This book really snuck up on me. Because during the time that I was reading it, I would find myself thinking about it when I was driving or doing other things. I would be mulling it over, trying to put the pieces together. — Libby Rodriguez, Libby's Book Blog

Pump Up Your Book Presents J.D. Davis ‘Unconquered’ May 1 Blog Blitz + KINDLE GIVEAWAY (Ends 6/1)U.S./Canada

About J.D. Davis
J.D. Davis was raised in Quitman, Texas, a quiet community in the northeast part of the state. Having grown up in a small town in the rural South—similar in many ways to the cousins’ hometown of Ferriday, Louisiana—with many similar influences as the cousins, he has meaningful insight into these three men.

Davis attended the University of Texas on a full academic scholarship, received a B.A. with highest honors in economics, and was elected to Phi Beta Kappa. He later received a master’s degree from SMU.

As a successful businessman, Davis achieved the highest credentials as an actuary and became a principal in a large firm while still in his twenties. He currently manages an employee benefits consulting practice that covers the southern region of the United States, with offices in four cities.

Davis remembers his father watching Jimmy Swaggart on television and being intrigued by the evangelist's magnificent piano talent. As a teenager, Davis became a huge fan of Jerry Lee Lewis. He first attended one of Lewis’s live performances as a college student and was awe-struck to see this man put on a breathtaking performance. Davis grew up listening to country music of the seventies and eighties, when Mickey Gilley was consistently producing number one country hits. He became fascinated by the ways these three very different cousins achieved and dealt with eventual success and has been a dedicated fan for years.

Davis has worked with a talented team of many. His editors included Elizabeth Kaye, an award winning journalist who has often written about southern music and southern preachers. As a contributing editor to Rolling Stone, she interviewed Sam Phillips and gathered firsthand experience of Jerry Lee Lewis when covering sessions at which he played with Johnny Cash, Carl Perkins, and Roy Orbison. As a contributing editor to John Kennedy’s George magazine, Kaye wrote extensively about Billy Graham and his son Franklin, traveled on several missionary trips with Franklin, and worked with ABC’s 20/20 to produce and write a major Billy Graham profile.

About Unconquered
The Saga of Cousins Jerry Lee Lewis, Jimmy Swaggart, and Mickey Gilley
In 1935 and early 1936, three cousins were born into tight-knit families in Ferriday, Louisiana. Rare piano talent, strong parental relationships, the Pentecostal church, family struggle, and a variety of musical influences worked together to produce men who changed twentieth-century music and culture. The individual stories of these three cousins illustrate their varied paths from small-town America to a world stage. Woven together, the collective story becomes even more compelling and amazing.

UNCONQUERED is a story so unlikely that it would not be believable if written as fiction. It tells of rock ‘n’ roll legend Jerry Lee Lewis, televangelist Jimmy Swaggart, and country music star Mickey Gilley. These very different men, raised in the same time and place, with similar talents, were fated for entirely different destinies even as their lives would always be profoundly intertwined. Born into poverty, each man, in his own way, would become an iconic figure blessed with the ability to thrill and inspire.

The story's touchstones of music, perseverance, and faith could wield such force only in the American South. There, in the Louisiana lowlands’ Concordia Parish, their story began in the midst of the Great Depression.

A February Treat! For Love & Liberty by Stephen Grimble (Kindle Edition) Special Deal for the Month of February!

There is a great deal going on all this month at Amazon for Stephen Grimble's book For Love & Liberty. The kindle edition is only $.99 all this month!  Check out the deal here.

Calling our Founding Fathers
Author looks to the past to save our future in latest work

ALBUQUERQUE - In his second book and first fiction piece, For Love & Liberty(Wasteland Press, September 2011), Stephen Grimble, author, veteran, and history buff, asks, “What can we learn from our founding fathers to solve the crisis we're in today?”

Inspired by the United States' current political and fiscal troubles, Grimble penned the novel with the belief in mind that the U.S. is long overdue for a renewed examination and application of the original constitutional principles. For Love & Liberty captures the spirit of the American Revolution and re-thinks the modern function of the American Constitution and Bill of Rights, combining both historical and futuristic perspectives...and a little romance, too.

"It's a distinct probability that we will not pass on the blessings of liberty to future generations if America is not restored to fiscal solvency and limited government," says Grimble.

Posing the questions "what will be the epitaph for the current American generation?" "will it be the first in the country's history to fail to answer the call to honor liberty?", For Love & Liberty is a cautionary tale that offers a possible solution to restoring limited constitutional government, individual liberty, and fiscal solvency, and what might happen if that solution is rejected. Grimble hopes this will inspire other concerned citizens to join him in his call for new action.

STEPHEN GRIMBLE is a retired executive and a member of SouthWest Writers. He currently resides in Albuquerque, New Mexico, where he continues to call fellow patriots to the founding ideals of the United States Constitution.

Sounds like a timely book and one that is worth the price!

Satisfied Saturday--Kindle Edition! (10/2-10/7)

Well, I had the opportunity to download this book for free on my kindle a short time ago.  I thought it was high time that I used it to plan out my meals this week.  And this is especially wonderful since the weather is finally beginning to feel like fall.  So here is what I plan to cook.

Meal 1:  Old Fashioned Vegetable and Beef Soup

Meal 2:  Pork Stew

Meal 3:  Chicken with Bread Crust

Meal 4:  Saucy Minestrone

Okay, so I realize I cannot elaborate too much on these recipes this week.  What I will say is that these recipes are simple and will hopefully be pretty standard.  The pork stew has some kind of orange peel flavoring in it.  The neat thing about this book is that it is part of the everything book series.  I hadn't realized just how many topics these books covered until I went to the site.  There is a lot there to check out!

By the way, last's recipes, especially the pie for my mom's birthday, was great!

Thoughtful Thursday--"Kindle Kondition"

Well, I did it.  That is, my mom and I did.  Thanks to all her rewards points on amazon, we finally got a kindle.  Or at least we have ordered one.  By the end of this month, I will be able to review and read e-books.  I have to admit that I really was against getting and e-reader at first.  In my mind, it will never replace the printed book just like the CD was never replaced by the mp3 player.  At least for me.

It was actually my mother's doings.  She wanted to be able to access the Bible electronically, and she also is a big fan of Arthur Pink.  She is not a big fan of toting big books around with her that weigh a ton.  So she decided to go for it.

What sealed the deal for us is that I am being asked to review so many books now that I cannot access in print.  I have two I need to review within the next month that will not allow a print from the site.  It's annoying, but now at least I will have a way to review them.

So with this post, I enter the 21st century at last.  There must be hope for me!
