Goddess Fish: "Identity Crisis" by Eliza Daly Super Book Blast

Identity Crisis
by Eliza Daly

~~~~~~~~~~~~~
BLURB:
When Olivia Doyle’s father dies under suspicious circumstances, rather than inheriting a family fortune, she inherits a new identity. She learns they were placed in the Federal Witness Protection Program when she was five years old. Her father was involved in an art forgery ring and testified against the mob. Brought up not to trust anyone, Olivia has a difficult time relying on U.S. Marshal Ethan Ryder to protect her, and to keep her secret. She fears her father may have continued his life of crime through her art gallery. She has little choice but to depend on Ethan when she realizes someone is now after her. Olivia’s search for the truth leads her and Ethan across country to a family and past she doesn’t remember.
At the age of ten, Ethan witnessed a brutal murder. He vowed when he grew up, he’d protect people in danger. Protecting Olivia is difficult when she won’t trust him. He soon realizes his desire to protect her goes beyond doing his job, but if his judgment becomes clouded by emotions, her safety could be jeopardized.
Can Ethan and Olivia learn to trust each other when they uncover secrets that will change their lives forever?
Excerpt:
Olivia stood paralyzed, her mind racing, trying to comprehend the letter. Was this some kind of sick joke? For the past twenty-four years her dad had lived in fear that somebody would hurt them? What had forced him to leave behind everyone he’d loved? Everyone she’d probably loved, but obviously couldn’t remember. And if her mom wasn’t buried in San Francisco, whose grave had Olivia been visiting here all these years? She tried to hold the letter steady in her trembling hands. Of course it was vague. Her dad had been a man of few words. However, these few words expressed a lot of emotion, something he’d never been good at doing.
“Is everything all right?” Father Clifford’s voice penetrated her thoughts.
Concern creased the older man’s brow and from the curiosity filling his gray eyes, he had no clue what the envelope contained. Her dad hadn’t even trusted a priest with his secret. Her dad had been the only person she’d ever really trusted, and it turned out she hadn’t truly known him.
She merely nodded, unable to find her voice. She inhaled a deep breath. The scent of beeswax candles and incense did little to calm the panic racing through her veins. She unfolded a clipping from a Chicago newspaper, dated twenty-four years ago. The headline read Art Dealer in Bed with Mob Blows Whistle on Forgery Ring and Vinnie Carlucci. The article included a photo of police officers escorting her dad. She started reading the article. Prominent Chicago art dealer Andrew Donovan confesses to having sold more than a hundred forgeries...
Her stomach dropped. She slapped a hand over her mouth, certain she was about to vomit right there on the pew.
Her dad had been a criminal.
The nature of his crime made it all the more surreal.
She stared in disbelief at the papers in her hand. His name had been Andrew Donovan, not Alex Doyle. Her last name was Donovan. Was her first name actually Olivia? Instead of inheriting a family fortune, she’d inherited a new identity.
Or rather, an old one.
AUTHOR Bio and Links:
Eliza Daly’s first attempt at creative writing was in fourth grade. She and her friends were huge Charlie’s Angels fans and she would sit in her bedroom at night writing scripts for them to act out at recess the following day. She was Kelly Garrett. Fast forward to the present, she’s still writing stories about beautiful women who always get their men. The journey from fourth grade script writer to published author wasn’t an easy one, but it was always an adventure and the final destination was well worth it.
When Eliza isn’t traveling for her job as an event planner, or tracing her ancestry roots through Ireland, she’s at home in Milwaukee working on her next novel, bouncing ideas off her husband Mark, and her cats Quigley, Frankie, and Sammy.
All in all, Hunted is a very enjoyable read, especially for those who enjoy angel/demon books. This one has everything you want in an angel book while still maintaining its own distinct feel.
This series is addictive.
AMAZING! There is not enough words to describe how much I loved Hunted. Ednah Walters has outdid herself if that is even possible.
I grew up reading Nancy Drew and Hardy boys mysteries, hence Stratemeyer influence, before I graduated to Mills & Boons (starting with Janet Daily's Shutter the Sky) and the rest is history.
I enjoy good love stories, tingly mysteries and wondrous adventures. When I finished my college and decided to be a stay-at-home mother, I devoured books like they were going out of production, until reading just wasn't enough. So I started to write.
I've written picture books, contemporary and romantic suspense, biracial/multicultural books, and finally YA fantasy. Awakened is the first book in The Guardian Legacy series. I'm working on book 2, tentatively named Betrayed. When I'm not writing, I do things with my family, five children or my darling husband of 18 years. I live in a picturesque valley in Utah, the setting for my series.
The Grimm Chronicles, Vol. 2The Grimm Chronicles, Vol. 2 by Ken Brosky
My rating: 3 of 5 stars
If I could give this a 3.5, I probably would.  This is the second installment, and it was better than the first.  But I am still not impressed.  If you like fantasy, this may be the book for you.  If you like fairy tales, this may be the book for you.  If you like reading about really weird stuff, this is definitely the book for you.
I will admit that I was not too happy about reading the second installment.  I really did not care too much for the first.  However, there is not as much graphic violence in this book.  And I have grown to love Briar.  He is my favorite character, and I think I would enjoy reading an entire series written about him.  The more he is featured, the more I like him.  His sense of humor is wonderfully sarcastic, and he always lightens things up while being sober-minded as well.
My complaints with the book are the gratuitous profanity (though it's not hardcore) and the story line that is truly off-the-wall.  I really would like to see more familiar fairy tales featured because I almost didn't figure out the fish.  I'm not sure how Captain Ahab all of a sudden showed up.  But there I go again analyzing a young adult fantasy and making it what it should not be.  Maybe I am just too analytical for my own good.  But for the fantasy-lover, this is probably the ideal book.
I was sent a copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.  I was not financially compensated,and all opinions are 100 percent mine.
A Global Conversation About Newborn Health
UN Photo/Bikem Ekberzade
There is nothing better than the joy of bringing a new life into this world.  I only had one, and she is nearly ten, but I will never forget the joy, wonder, and fear that entered my life when I discovered I was pregnant with her.  I chose to use a midwife and go "au natural," but at least I knew there was the back-up option of going to the hospital and even calling an ambulance if need be.  For the first five weeks of her life, she was not getting enough milk, and she lost weight.  Again, thanks to medical health, I was able to keep her from having any problems.  I know God kept her safe in my ignorance, but no matter what, she had a lot going for her.  I didn't have to worry about much of anything because medical science is right at our fingertips.
But, you see, we here in the U.S. are very blessed to have access to such medical help.  We don't have to worry about things like they do elsewhere in this world.  Let me share some newborn health facts that you may not know (thanks to Impatient Optimists).
  • Almost three million newborns die every year all over the world.
  • Complications of preterm birth are the second leading cause of death in children before they reach their fifth birthday.
  • A newborn is 45 times more likely to die in his/her first month of life than he/she is from ages one to five.
  • Ninety-nine percent of infants that die each year die in low- and middle-income countries.
The Global Newborn Health Conference will occur from April 15-18 in South Africa.  Read more about it here.  Supporters of the conference are: (@mchipnet,@gatesfoundation @unicef,@savethechildren and @usaid) along with additional supporters (@jhpiego,@jsihealth, @laerdalmedical ). They will all be tweeting facts from the #newborn2013 hashtag.
There is a way for everyone to get involved since most of us will be unable to attend the conference.  Retweet daily “Did You Know?” facts from Dr. Gary Darmstadt (@gdarmsta), Director of the Family Health Division of the Gates Foundation.
I.O. Book Tours; "Resisting the Bad Boy" by Violet Duke Promo
Welcome to the release of "Resisting the Bad Boy"
by
Violet Duke.
RESISTING THE BAD BOY (NICE GIRL TO LOVE Book #1)
This is the first book in a three-novel serial romance titled NICE GIRL TO LOVE.  It will be available at most major e-book retailers on March 29.  Its follow-up, Book #2: FALLING FOR THE GOOD GUY, will release at the end of April, and the series finale is due out at the end of May.  The paperback versions of all three novels will come out in June.
Abby Bartlett is the quintessential nice girl. Between teaching, volunteering, completing her PhD, and helping her best friend raise his daughter, Abby never gets the chance to be anything but nice. That is, until the all-wrong-for-her man she’s only ever known from afar starts daring her to simply take that chance for herself.  His sage advice?  Try something wild and fast.
Preferably him.
An unbridled, hotshot attorney with a not-so-little black book, Connor Sullivan has earned himself quite the bad boy reputation.  But in his defense, he’s a very conscientious one. He knows far too well that sometimes in life, love isn’t enough…or worse, not even a factor at all.  To avoid that misery—and repel the drama—Connor always makes his one and only rule crystal clear right from the start.  Absolutely nothing more than a month.
Turns out, a whole lot can happen in one month.
Excerpt
“Why you little—” Connor launched at Abby as she shrieked out in laughter and tried ducking around him to make for the door. Snatching her around the waist, he hoisted her cackling body over his shoulder and upended her back onto the bed. “You set me up.” Now unliddable, her giggles effervesced, giving zero credence to her perfectly scandalized denials. He trapped her under him and buried his grin against the curve of her neck, feeling disproportionately victorious at the gasp she couldn’t contain when he skimmed his lips over her collarbone. The woman was getting to him. This time, when his lips found her soft skin again, it was with purpose. “You planted that wicked little bag-o-fun there for me to find, admit it.” She gave an Oscar-worthy gasp at the accusation. “What? What possible reason would I have had to do that?” “To drive me up the wall? Send me bursting through my zipper?” He nipped at her earlobe playfully. “Though I guess I should be flattered to be the reason you bought all that stuff.” The cutest derisive snort he’d ever heard shot out of her like a torpedo with impeccable aim. “Breaking news, Connor: scientists have in fact discovered that the earth doesn’t revolve around you. Women buy toys for themselves all the time.” He nearly bit off his tongue to avoid even thinking about Abby having any sort of toy-based fun. “I still call foul. When you and I agreed to this who’ll-beg-first stint, you didn’t say you’d be weaponizing your attacks.” “Weapons?” She blinked innocently. “You make them sound so sinister. I’d say they’re more like…private tools. Survival tools, if you will. For my time here. Naturally, you were never meant to see them.” “Bull. Next, you’ll tell me the snowflake masquerading as underwear in that bag is worn strictly for comfort. He--, I’ve seen more fabric on the teeny doilies in Skylar’s toy tea sets—” “Aw, I remember those,” she cut in softly with a smile. “She used to go on and on about how her ‘bestest Uncle Connor’ hosted the fanciest dress-up tea parties.” “I wore suits,” he clarified gruffly, “and don’t change the subject. Why buy sexy lingerie if not to have them be seen?” By me. He didn’t have to say it out loud, they were both thinking it. And his ego was celebrating it. “Easy access,” she eventually answered, straight-faced. His imagination went nuts. Picturing Abby wearing the microscopic scrap of white lace he saw earlier for private ‘easy access’ unhinged him. He shackled her wrists above her head with one hand and began tickling her ribs. “Another foul.” “Stop!” she screeched and dissolved into a breathless puddle of mirth. “Okay, I admit it! It was a dirty, dirty foul on my part. You should definitely take a free throw shot.” He paused, wondering where she was going with this. She pointed to the trash can. “There’s the basket; my new panties can be the ball…since yours are clearly in a twist.” Incredulous, he dialed up the tickle torture to merciless. Her squealing ‘I-take-it-backs’ became unintelligible as she wriggled and squirmed and bucked until soon, he was fairly certain he was suffering more than she was. Breathing hard, he released her wrists and rolled onto his back beside her. “You’re planning to drive me completely crazy these next few weeks, aren’t you?” Limbs all akimbo, head dangling off the bed, she heaved between breaths, “Like you wouldn’t believe.”
VIOLET DUKE is the pen name for Nina Nakayama, former professor of English Education turned author who now spends her days on the other side of the page writing wickedly fun contemporary romance.  When she’s not catering to the whims of her story characters or feeding her book-a-day reading addiction, she enjoys randomly rearranging the furniture in her house, tackling reno projects with her power tools, cooking ‘special edition’ dishes that laugh in the face of recipes, and trying pretty much anything without reading the directions first.  Nina lives in Hawai‘i with her two cute kids and similarly adorable husband.  Learn more about her and her books at http://www.violetduke.com.
