"The Grace Painter" by Mark Romang Book Review

I realize the blog tour has ended (as has the giveaway), but if you would like to find out more about the book, click here.

The Grace PainterThe Grace Painter by Mark Romang
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I have to admit that as I began this book, I really didn't think too much of it.  But I have discovered that is a common response for me when it comes to thrillers.  Sometimes they take a while to get going.  And it seemed that there were so many characters to keep track of that I really struggled to wrap my mind around the entire story.  I didn't feel any connection with the characters.

The first thing the author did that began to turn the tide had to do with little Gabby and her vision--I won't spoil the story.  I was deeply touched, and I suddenly wondered if I would truly enjoy this book.  And even though I struggled to keep the characters straight, I truly began to connect with the story and characters.  Halfway through the book, the action was so high that I struggled to set the book down.

The best part about this book is that there is no profanity nor sex scenes.  Notwithstanding, this was as exciting as any thriller.  There is violence, and not everything works out perfectly every time.  The gospel message and morality is strong throughout the story, but it never comes across as being preachy.  I easily give this book five stars, and I think that if you like thrillers without all the garbage that usually accompanies them, this book is for you!

I was sent a copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.  I was not financially compensated, and all opinions are 100 percent mine.

"Working It Out" by Rachael Anderson Cover Reveal and Giveaway (Ends 5/31) WW

Author Rachael Renee Anderson

Rachael Anderson is the author of four books: Divinely Designed, Luck of the Draw, Minor Adjustments, and The Reluctant Bachelorette. She's the mother of four and is pretty good at breaking up fights, or at least sending guilty parties to their rooms. She can't sing, doesn't dance, and despises tragedies. But she recently figured out how yeast works and can now make homemade bread, which she is really good at eating.

Working It Out
A chance encounter . . .
Grace Warren's life is safe and predictable—exactly the way she likes it. But when she gets roped into going to an auction to help out a friend, everything changes. She meets Seth Tuttle—a guy who unexpectedly kisses her then disappears, leaving her flustered and upset. If she never sees him again, it will be too soon.

A chance for love . . .
Weeks later, when Seth limps into Grace's rehab clinic post surgery, she immediately recognizes him. Unfortunately, he's every bit as frustrating and annoying as she remembered. Yet there's something about him that makes her second-guess her carefully placed boundaries even though he's everything she's sure she doesn't want in a man. But maybe Seth is exactly what Grace has needed all along—assuming she's willing to risk safe and predictable for a chance at love.

Keep your eyes out for a blog tour and blast soon to come up!  I am pretty sure I'll be participating.

This Day in History May 1, 1931

I visited New York City when I was 17 years old (almost 18), and it is an experience I shall never forget. Although all my pictures were lost in a flooded basement shortly after my marriage, I still have a video of it.  I used to have a picture of this building as well as a picture that included the Twin Towers (which I don't even recall while there).  I got the chance to go to the top of today's feature.  On this date in 1931, the Empire State Building was opened to the public.  It was the tallest building at that time at 1250 feet tall.  It was build as a result of the skyscraper race sparked by the Eiffel Tower in Paris, France in 1889.  It was taller than the recently-built Chrysler Building that stood a mere 1046 feet tall.  And just for good measure, they added a lightning rod to the roof which brought it to a 1454 feet tall.  At the height of its building of this structure, the workers averaged four and a half stories per day.
