I have to admit when I first received the bottle I wasn't quite sure what to do with it. Once I started checking out the video and sites (above) I had plenty I wanted to try! I love this stuff! I made a bath scrub with brown sugar and vanilla. It smelled and felt so good. I also used it as eye make up remover and natural lip balm. My favorite use by far is for my hair. I have really dry, brittle, curly hair. I have been using just a dab after my shower each morning and my hair is so soft! I love this stuff!

I will admit that I have never used their coconut oil in this manner,.  I only ever used the coconut oil in cooking, and I was quite impressed.  I may have to look into using it this way!

Secondly, I got to try Tropical Traditions Organic Hair Oil.  I tried the lavender scent, and I was quite impressed.  I have tried a number of things from Tropical Traditions, and I never tire of reviewing and promoting their products.  But this was something a little different.  I had never used coconut oil on my hair--until I tried this product.  

I read the instructions on the back very carefully, and I tried two out of the three ways that it recommended using it.  I don't have dry scalp, so I skipped that one.  I immediately began using this on my hair to style and make it shine.  I was impressed with the results.   It was much better than putting mousse or other styling products on it.  The only thing I did not like is that after a couple days of using it, I have to use powder on my hair to counteract the effects of the oil.  But that is a minor issue.  

The second way I used this was as a conditioner.  It had a couple different ways to use it.  I put it on my hair after I washed it, and indeed, it made my hair soft, silky, and nicely scented.  I also put it on my hair before washing it.  You can put it on and leave it on from 15 minutes up to overnight.  I left it on for 15 minutes, and I certainly liked the way it conditioned my hair--both times.  And come to think of it, I have not had any itchy 

scalp.  While I do not suffer from dry scalp, I guess this also kept my scalp from having any dryness issues.

And finally, I received a bottle of Purex Crystals Tropical Splash and a Jocket Tech Terry sports bra to review.  These products are absolutely awesome!  I am always impressed with Purex products, and the Purex Crystals are no exception.  The tropical splash has a fantastic scent that lasts, and its softening quality rivals that of any dryer sheet or fabric softener.  And the best part is that you get to put the crystals in at the beginning of the wash cycle.  I don't know about you, but I tend to forget to add fabric softener at the right time, so I don't usually use it.  It is a pain.  But not so with Purex Crystals!

And as for the Jockey Sports bra (mine was black instead of the white one pictured), I could not be happier!  I was actually looking for a new sports bra, and this is the most comfortable sports bra I have ever worn, and it definitely provides the best amount of support of any sports bra I have worn.  I just find that it is hard to get off after my workout when I am sweaty.  But that is a minor issue compared with what you get!

Twinkle Tuesday--Tropical Traditions Lavender Skin Exfoliator Review and Giveaway (Ends 12/15) U.S. and Canada

For about a month now, I have been using a fantastic product from Tropical Traditions--Lavender Skin Exfoliator.  Throughout my years with various facial cleansers, I have tried various exfoliants and facial scrubbers.  I have two problems.  One, the exfoliators do not clean my skin.  Even though they are abrasive, I am not able to get all the residue off my face.  And secondly, the exfoliators dry out my skin.

I did not quickly review this product because I wanted to truly monitor how well this worked on my face.  I was glad to discover that it did not damage nor overly dry out my skin.  That was good news.  Especially since you have to scrub your face for about a minute.

I am also pleased at how well this cleans my skin.  The make-up residue is almost eradicated with this product.  I still have a few blemishes, but my skin feels so much cleaner.  I am also pleased to report that it is possible to use this exfoliator on sensitive skin.  My skin tends to be dry and sometimes becomes irritated by abrasive skin cleansers.  I am pleased to report that with this product, none of that occurs.  I think I may have finally found a product that will get my face clean!  This product is also able to be used on other parts of the body like face, skin, and any place with rough skin.  I have not had the opportunity to use this product elsewhere, but I certainly would like to one day.

And on a side note,. another problem I have when cleansing my face is getting the cleanser in my mouth.  Usually, the flavor is horrid.  I will admit that this product is not as awful as I thought it would be, and if you get it in your mouth (like I generally do each time I use it), there is no cause for concern.  It is organic and nautral.

Twinkle Tuesday--Tropical Traditions Coconut Peanut Butter Review and Giveaway (Ends 10/28) U.S./Canada

This is a very special product to me indeed.  This was one of the first products I ever tried from Tropical Traditions!  If you have spent any time in the blogosphere, you have probably heard of Tropical Traditions.  They sell all sorts of organic foods, cleaners, personal care products, and more.  If it says Tropical Traditions, rest assured--you are getting high quality at a reasonable price.

I had the privilege of reviewing Tropical Traditions Organic Coconut Peanut Butter.  Let me say up front that if you like coconut and peanut butter, this product is for you!  I love the fact that it is creamy and distinctive.  It contains only two ingredients--organic peanuts and organic coconut.  It does not have any sweetener--I am so glad of that.  I often find that even grocery store "organic" peanut butters are way too sweet. I think that when a sweetener is added to peanut butter, it cuts down on the true peanut flavor.  Not so with Tropical Traditions.

I am a health conscious person--I still have a little bit of weight to lose.  I love peanut butter, but oftentimes, even the "natural" peanut butter has a lot of unhealthy fat.  This coconut peanut butter is healthier than your typical peanut butter.  I feel like I can have my peanut butter and eat it too!  And not get fat!!

If I had one criticism, it is the fact that this peanut butter tends to be runny. Especially if used on something warm.  But I really don't mind.  If it spills off of my toast or muffin onto the plate, I just get "mop" up the peanut butter with my bread!  You won't hear me complaining.

Day 5 Giveaway--Tropical Traditions Powdered Dishwasher Detergent Review and Giveaway (Ends 9/14) U.S. and Canada (CLOSED)

I was recently given the opportunity to review Tropical Traditions Powdered Dishwasher Detergent.  Up to this point, I had only ever tried Tropical Traditions foods, and I welcomed the opportunity to explore their line of household products.  

First of all, we live in the country and use well water that is very high in nitrates.  The city has come out and inspected it, and there is really nothing we can do except continue to filter it as we do.  Understandably, our water tends to be hard (in spite of the water softener we use), and getting dishes clean in the dishwasher is a chore.  Often, our dishes do not get quite clean, i. e., spots on our glasses, film in our bowls, etc.  

When this sample arrived in the mail, I was very excited to try it out in our dishwasher.  I will tell you that are results with the dishwasher detergent were somewhat mixed.  Because of our unusual water, we still sometimes gets spots and/or film on our dishes.  What I will say is that overall, this detergent has given us better results.  In fact, sometimes our dishes have actually come out crystal clear!  We have never had those kinds of results with traditional dishwasher detergent.  So for my money, this is a good deal, and it works well.  Even more importantly, it is environmentally friendly.  I always like quality products that are ecologically responsible!

I'm sure you're wondering how I can relate dishwasher detergent to reading, but I assure you I can!  Any product that gets you out of the kitchen sooner so you can enjoy your book sooner is worthwhile!  So put your dinner dishes in the dishwasher, use the detergent, start the dishwasher, and you've got all evening to read!

Tropical Traditions Coconut Flour Review

A couple weeks ago, I was sent a tremendous product from Tropical Traditions.  I have been a fan of theirs for quite while and have had the chance to try several of their products.  Their products are fantastic, and I highly recommend them.

The product I chose was organic coconut flour.

Up to this point, I was totally clueless when it came to using coconut flour.  I began researching online for recipes.  I found one right away on this portion of the  Tropical Traditions Website.  I chose the Gluten Free Pumpkin Muffins.  I had some frozen pumpkin that needed to be used up.  And so I followed the recipe.  However, because the pumpkin had extra liquid in it, it took longer to cook and was still very crumbly.  It tasted good--I only made half of the frosting.  We all liked these really well.  I did not take a picture because they didn't look great.  But they tasted really good.

I did some more searching, and I happened upon a recipe for this:

 This is a pineapple upside down cake.  I modified the recipe based on what I had.  So here is what I did:

Coat the bottom and sides of a round cake pan with cooking spray. Sprinkle about 1/4 cup of brown sugar over the spray.  Using a can of sliced pineapple (8 oz.) place 1 slice in the center of the pan.  Put a maraschino cherry in the middle of it.  Cut the remaining 3 pineapple slices in half and arrange them around the pineapple in the center of the pan.  Put 1 cherry in the center of each pineapple slice.  Place 6 pecan halves around the center pineapple slice.  Pour the batter over the fruit.

Batter

1/4 cup melted coconut oil

1/2 cup Splenda

1/2 teaspoon baking powder

1/2 cup coconut flour

4 eggs

1/2 teaspoon salt

1 teaspoon vanilla

Mix together until no lumps remain.

Bake cake for 30-35 minutes at 350 degrees or until knife inserted in center  comes out clean.  Flip cake over onto a heatproof plate.  Let pan remain a minute of two.  Remove pan.  Serve warm with cool whip, if desired.

This is the first time I ever made pineapple upside down cake, and it was fantastic!  I was amazed at just how good it was.  

I wholeheartedly recommend the coconut flour.  We have no allergies in our household, but the flavor of the coconut flour (and the heavenly smell) is enough to make me want to use it more and more!

Solution Sunday--Tropical Traditions Review

Several months ago, I discovered a fantastic site for truly organic, responsibly produced items for consumption and household use.  It is an online store called Tropical Traditions.  I  was first introduced to them through several blog giveaways that I won, and I have to admit that I was instantly hooked.

The first thing of theirs that I ever tried  was their shredded coconut.

I was first impressed by the size of the package that came (and how hard it was to get open, so I knew it was fresh!).  It replaced all the coconut that I used for cooking, and of course, this is one of tropical traditions' signature items.  Indeed, it was nice to have organic coconut that was not sweetened (like we normally get in the store).  It has become something I use on a regular basis, and I doubt I will ever use the cheap stuff in the store again.

The next thing I had the privilege to try was their organic whole golden flaxseed.

I had never tasted flaxseed before, but I tell you, I am hooked!  At least on their flaxseed.  I made the mistake of getting some recently that was not made by them, and I have  to admit that I regret it.  I was happy to add their flaxseed to my cereal,  my yogurt, and even my toast in the morning.  The flavor and crunch that their flaxseed provides (besides the health benefits) is definitely worth it!

The third item I won from them was their Canadian Raw Honey.

This item is a favorite of mine and my Mom's.  It is a cream honey, and the flavor is absolutely extraordinary. It is the only honey I will use.  I'm sure I will have to order some more some time soon.

Those are the only three items I have won that I have actually had a chance to use, but there were items that I really wanted to try that I never saw in a giveaway--or at least, I hadn't won!  I had signed up for their e-mails long ago, but I had yet to order from them.

As I was reading various blogs last weekend, I was pleased to find a free shipping deal from them.  I figured that I was tired of waiting, and it was time to place my first real order.  So I did.  The best part was that they accept paypal, and I was able to pay for half of my order with my paypal balance.  

So what did I order?

I have not tried the vanilla yet, but the other items are fantastic!  The chocolate has the be the best dark chocolate I have ever tasted!  And as for the coconut peanut butter, once you make sure it is stirred, it is  pretty fantastic!  And it is healthier than most peanut butters out there.

So what is my verdict?  Well, I will say that Tropical Traditions is a fantastic company that offers a great variety of organic, environmentally responsible company.  Yes, you will pay a little bit more, but I have to say that it felt good to be sending my money their way.  I wish more companies would take this company's lead!
