Solution Sunday--An Update on All of Challenges including my 3 in 30 challenges!

This is a little later than I intended, but it still is Sunday where I am!  So I figured this would work just fine for me.  I will first of all update you on my 3 in 30 challenge.  I will be the first to admit that I didn't do as well I would have liked to have done.  But here goes.

1.   Get down to 145 pounds by the end of this month.
No weight loss to report, I have to admit.  I did plan healthy meals to use up pantry items, so that is a good thing.  I also discovered that Vitalicious Vita Tops are the key to my evening snacks--I plan to keep those on hand in spite of the cost!  As for mission abs, I only did 2 days of concentrated ab exercises--only 4 days of exercise this week.  Three days cardio.  I thought I would share which sites I used:

This one will kill you!  These yoga exercises are tough but effective!

You will be sore after you do these exercises!

So as for this one this week, here are my specific goals:

  •   Plan healthy meals from our pantry yet again--I am behind due to tomorrow's holiday, so I will plan it tomorrow and post it here.
  •  Eat at least 2 fruit and 2 veggies each day.  I know it should be 2 and 3, but this is better than nothing.
  •   Mission Abs at least 4 days this week.
2.  Clean out my closet.

You would be surprised.  I almost finished this one.  I cleaned out my clothes and got rid of things that were old and faded and that I didn't like.  I got junk out of my closet, and indeed it was great!  I have one box of stuff to go through still, but I feel like I can actually use my closet now!

So for this week, here are my goals.

  • Finish cleaning up the closet
  • Go through my CD's.
  • If time, go through my magazines.
3.  Clean out my e-mail inbox.

All I have done is keep my inbox itself manageable.  I have not begun to clean out the other folders.  So for this week, I plan to clean out one folder--I don't care which one!

I will do a monthly wrap-up post for my other challenges.  I start some great Bible studies this week as well, and hopefully I will get a chance to do blog about them!

Here's hoping next week will be even better!

Solution Sunday--An Update on the Challenges I Am Joining This Year

Well, here we go again.  A new year, and I have cut back tremendously on the amount of challenges I am doing.  Last year, I overextended myself, and I was not as committed to my goals and my blog as I am this year.

3in30 Challenge

I am definitely doing this challenge this year.  I am doing the challenges I listed, and beginning next Sunday, I will link up with them. on their site.

In addition to this challenge, I have two book challenges I am doing this year.  Actually three.  My goal this year is to read 50 books, and I will be keeping track on goodreads.  When I update it, I will put a link here on my blog.

The Just-For-Fun Reading Challenge 2012 is one I am definitely doing.  Read this post for the information.  The first book I will be reading for this challenge (hopefully) is:

My second official book challenge.  You can read about it here.  My goal is to make it Level 3--DVD.  Goodness!  That means that I will half to read about half of my books as e-books.  We will see what happens.  Here's hoping!

One more challenge--I did it last year, too.

This challenge is really only for the month of January, but I hope to extend it throughout the entire year, if I can help it.  Here is where you can find the info:
Pantry Challenge

I will officially start this at the end of this week when I decide on the meals for the week.  My goals are as follows:

1.  Create a current pantry list each month.
2.  Use at least five things on the list each month.
3.  If there is something that is in the pantry for more than six months, and I have no plans at all to use it, it will be thrown.

I really think I can do all of this.  I will be looking for other challenges throughout this week, but for the most part, this should take care of it.  And here's hoping I will accomplish these goals!

Solution Sunday--Natural Vitality Energy 28 Review

I recently had the great privilege of reviewing a product from Natural Vitality called Energy 28.  I am one who is always looking for natural forms of energy--otherwise, I practically live on coffee.  I never seem to get enough sleep, and I am a workaholic when it comes to many things in my life.

Here is the website's description of the product:

Energy begins with a balanced diet, with the body assimilating life-giving nutrients from the soil, processed into edible forms by plants. Because our diets are generally lacking in high-quality nutrition, we often turn to sugar and caffeine for quick energy at the expense of the health and sustained energy we could obtain from true nutrients. When the body is well nourished, a person is less likely to be depressed and more likely to have adequate energy levels. Energy28 was created to deliver supplemental natural energy from whole-food and natural sources

I will admit that when I first tried this product, I was somewhat skeptical.  I have found that "natural energy drinks" just don't do the job they say they do. And I was worried about the flavor.  But I followed the instructions, and added it to my water along with some Splenda.  I have to admit that I noticed no difference.

Since the product failed to work the way I thought it should the first time, I decided to give up on it.  And then I got a mild cold, and I figured that using this product wouldn't help during times of illness.  I knew I would have to try it again, but I have to admit that I was not looking forward to it.

A couple days later, my mom gave me a call and asked if she could try the product.  She read the instructions on the back, and I discovered through our conversation that I had only taken about half of the suggested amount. I told her to go ahead and try it and let me know what she thought.  And quite quickly, she became a believer.  I think she used it every day for several days in a row, and she discovered she was not nearly as tired.  I was still recovering from my cold, so I thought I would wait until I was past my cold.

Today, I was absolutely exhausted.  The afternoon hit, and I had two choices--maybe three, come to think of it.  I could take a nap (out of the question), drink some coffee (that was an idea), or try Energy 28 again.  I decided to give the energy drink another try.  I made sure to use the correct dosage, and I have to admit that I did not like the flavor (I know it would be better in fruit juice or a smoothie), but it was quickly gone.  And almost immediately, my tiredness dissipated.  I have to admit that this Energy 28 carried me through several hours this afternoon without the horrible crash that sometimes comes from coffee or soda pop.

My favorite thing about Energy 28 is that contains natural ingredients including lots of vegetables.  While I may not always like the flavor, I know that if I decided to make a smoothie and use this as one of the ingredients, I would not even be able to taste it.  My mom is also sold on this drink (she has used 5 hour energy and other such drinks with mixed reviews), and she has already said that we need to buy this product to keep on hand.

Right now, there are not a lot of places that sell Natural Vitality Products.  You can check out the list here.  However, we are so committed to these products that we are going to search them out and ask retailers to order Energy 28 if necessary.

In short, if you are one who is in need of an afternoon pick-me-up (or you just need a little bit of energy), I encourage you to buy Energy 28!  You will find, as I certainly did, that this natural product will give you all of the energy you need with no "crash" later on.

Per FTC guidelines, I was sent a free product to review in exchange for my honest opinion.  I was not financially compensated in any other way, and all opinions are 100 percent mine.

Solution Sunday--I Need To Stay Out of It!

Well, it is still Sunday here, and I know that this needs to be posted. God spoke to me in church today, and I honestly think I have direction in my personal life--even though it is not an easy task.

Those who know me well (and there really aren't that many) know that above all else, I will do just about anything to keep the peace and smooth things over.  I have done it my whole life.  I am willing to do whatever is needed to make things right.  I cannot live with a wedge between another person and me if I can do something to remove that wedge.  I am not one who is above humbling myself before others.

Now, I am not saying that any of the above is bad.  In fact, it is good.  God asks us to do many of those things.  I have been walked over so many times in my life that it often becomes a way of life.  My "knee jerk" reaction is to apologize for something I didn't even do wrong and to go out of my way to make the other person feel good about things.  And in many situations, this action diffuses everything, and life can go on.

Unfortunately, there is a drawback to acting this way--many, as a matter of fact.  Sometimes, when things don't get smoothed over, I blame myself and work extra hard to make things right.  And I don't rest until they are.  I think I sometimes get in the mindset of telling God, "I'll help you with this one.  I know I can set everything right, and You're not working fast enough, so I've got this one, Lord."  As I typed that, I know how ludicrous this sounds, but it is true.

For several years, I worked to make Martin become a Christian.  I worked to make him fall in love with me and want to marry me.  I worked to remove all obstacles between us.  I was certain that if I did this or did that or said that, the inevitable would happen.

I am happy to report that in spite of my meddling with God's will and trying to make it happen, God worked in spite of me.  And He still is.  Martin is not saved--at times, very far from it.  But I realized last time that Martin came, I had to back off. I had to allow God to use whatever means possible to bring about His plan, and I had to stay out of it.  The "meddler" within me needed to have a time out.  This was one situation that I could not fix, try though I may.

Now there are other wedges I cannot fix.  I see it between people I care about, and I want to do all I can to fix it.  So what did I do?  My "knee jerk" reaction got in the way again.  I began to meddle.  I tried to persuade each side why they should listen and maybe even why the other side had merit.  I tried to be sympathetic and correct whatever I heard that might be wrong.  I defended one view to the other.  And, as you can imagine, I loused it up again!  There I was trying to fix a problem that was "unfixable" in the natural sense.  I am not equal to the task.  In fact, trying to fix it nearly drove me out of my mind.  I could not think, and I could not breathe.  Stress was truly getting to me.

Today, as I sat in church, our pastor began teaching about the book of James.  James chapter one says a lot about trials and tribulations.  And I needed to hear what was being said.  I did a lot of crying as I listened.  And God spoke to me.  Kind of like this:  "Ruth, I can handle this situation.  It is not too big for me.  I knew this was going to happen, and it is a trial.  I need for you to stay out of it so I can work my will through it.  I can still work my will if you meddle, but you will go through a lot more unpleasantness if you don't stay out of it.  My daughter, you are working way too hard.  Please, stay out of it."

I knew at this point that I had done it again.  I thought I could fix the situation.  I thought that I could say the right thing, and the issue would be resolved.  Wrong.  In fact, if anything, my meddling had made it worse.  Even Martin spoke wisdom to me.  He told me I needed to stay out of it.  Amazing how God can speak through people even when they are not saved!

While I am still struggling, I know now that I cannot handle this problem myself.   I don't know how to.  And Satan certainly attacked today--right where he knew he could get me.  Thank God my car was not hurt, but I  had to go outside the store and cry a spell.  I found myself saying exactly what God needed me to say.  "I can't do it, Lord.  I don't understand.  I need Your help."  And indeed He did send help.

I would love to report and say that everything is fine now.  But it is not.  It is such a strange role--not meddling.  I am so used to it.  I don't even know why.  I guess it is just what I am used to do.  And it bothers me to no end to know what needs to happen, and it doesn't happen.

I know that things are not improving.  And I realize they may never be the way they need to be.  But according to the Lord and Savior of the universe, He is in control, and no one can thwart His plans.

So, I am doing my best to remind myself that I am staying out of it.  God is in control, and He does not need me to meddle.  I need to follow His leading, and I know that things will turn out as they should.  May I not forget that this is the solution that God needs me to follow.

Solution Sunday--100% Natural Muscle Soak Bath Salt Review

I was very blessed to get the chance to review the 100% Natural Muscle Soak Bath Salt from the San Francisco Bath Salt Company!  Made with pure Epsom Salt and eucalyptus and peppermint essential oils, Muscle Soak Bath Salts will help to relieve even the most overworked muscles.  It is the ideal bath salt for athletes, people with physical jobs, and people who need to relieve tired, aching muscles.

First of all, I have not taken a bath in well over a year.  I used to take baths fairly regularly, but I just have not had time.  I would rather take a shower since they are faster.  But it is true that there are times that a bath just sounds nice and relaxing.  And I made sure that I had that time this weekend.

I am a teacher (a substitute right now), and I am on my feet a lot.  I also work out at least 3 times a week.  And I am in my late 30's, so my body and muscles are getting older.  I tend to suffer from back pain when I have been on my feet a lot.  And that was true this weekend.

I was immediately drawn to the bath salts--the smell was absolutely refreshing.  I followed the instructions and put in a couple hand fulls as I drew the water for my bath. I got in, and I just enjoyed the fact that I was taking a bath.  Indeed my muscles were instantly soothed.  And I didn't feel like budging for the next 15 minutes or so.

The only problem I ran into was that when I wanted to get out of the bath, I was so relaxed that I almost could not move!  I had to will myself out of the bath tub.  And my muscles felt so good the rest of the day and even on into today.  This a fantastic bath salt, and I look forward to using it again soon!

Solution Sunday--Lion King in 3D Review

Today, my daughter, her friend, my mom and I saw Lion King in 3D, and I give it a very high recommendation.  We all thoroughly enjoyed it, and it was worth it to see in the theater.

This movie has an interesting story with me.  When I was married, my then husband did not mind taking me to see the current Disney film.  I have enjoyed Disney animated films for as long as I can remember.  And what made this one different is that I didn't know the story.  Usually Disney would bring fairy tales to the screen that were well known.  This one was not.

When my then husband and I went to see this film, I absolutely loved it. He did not because it had African religion in it.  In fact, I think he wanted to leave in the middle of the film.  I think it was the last time he took me to a Disney film (or any film at all).  But I never forgot it.

When my daughter was about three, she and I went to see Lion King live on stage, and it was an unforgettable experience.  If you ever get the chance to see it on stage, definitely do it!

I knew that Lion King was going to be out of the theater before too long, and so I made the decision to take my daughter and her friend to see it today.  I decided to ask my mom to go too, and she agreed.  Much to my surprise.  My mom doesn't usually go to films, and she doesn't like animation.  But she decided to give it a go.

My mom had never seen a 3D movie in the theater, at least in recent years.  While Lion King's 3D technology cannot match the films that are made now that are originally in 3D, I was impressed.  And my mom was, too.  She loved the story, and she really was fascinated by the 3D.  I had forgotten how good this film was.  And this comes from my mother who can't stand animation!  That must tell you something.

If you are going to see it in the theater, act fast.  I think Thursday is its last day!

Solution Sunday--To Thank My Readers

This will be a very unusual post, and I am so glad I have the chance to write it.  Most of you probably don't realize how much I have been going through over the past month--after all, I haven't really spoken very much about my personal life, have I?  I have tried to keep things quiet, and I am only going to touch on things briefly.

Those of you have been with me a while know that I have a friend in England who is not saved.  He has been a good friend to me and to my family for many years.  Nine and a half years for me alone.  He was there when my marriage broke up, when I dated a loser guy, and when I made the move back to Washington state.  Due to immigration requirements, he could only live here in the U.S. 6 months out of the year.  And he could not work.

In spite of everything, I fell in love with him, but we were first and foremost friends.  I have prayed for his salvation, and at times he was quite receptive.  But he couldn't get past the amount of people in the church who didn't treat him right.

In recent times--within the past year--he has developed such a hate for my father (and the feeling is mutual from my dad) that he has made some poor decisions.  And in many ways, the only people that ever cared about him have been shut out from his life, including me.  I am the only one who still has some access to him, but there are lots of serious issues.  God has helped me in this situation, and He continues to.

Now, why did I tell you all of this?  And how does the title go with what I am writing?  Well, this blog has been what keeps me going, and I am not kidding.  Every night for at least the past month, one of the last prayers I pray is a thank you to God for this blog and all of you.  Even though I am back to school, blogging and hosting giveaways has become the thing that I almost live for!  (Not quite, but you understand.)

So to all of you, thank you for being my wonderful readers.  Every time I get a comment, it just makes my day.  When I realize that people are actually reading what I write and receiving encouragement from it, I am truly humbled.  I have always loved to write, and I dreamed of being a published author, but this is more dynamic than that.  I don't think I will ever truly get bored as a blogger!

I know that my giveaways are ending, and I want to thank everyone for their wonderful support.  I will be getting the prizes sent out this week, I promise!  And more giveaways are on the way.  I wish I could personally write to each of you, but just know that I have special things planned for you.

I want to also thank you for liking the This Day in History section.  Really, that was just a momentary inspiration that I thought people didn't even like at first.  It was really something that I started for me.  I am a teacher, and I used to do those kinds of things with my students.  So, I guess it is my chance to teach!  Keep watching because I have more ideas but they just haven't happened yet!

Solution Sunday--Skillet Bacon Jam Review

I recently had the opportunity to review an unusual product called skillet bacon jam (or spread). I was intrigued by the name alone, and when I read the company's description of their product, I knew this was something I wanted to try!

From the company:
we make this bacon spread condiment called bacon jam..you say what?.. that’s right, we use niman ranch bacon and render it down along with onions, balsamic and other spices . It cooks for several hours until it is a perfect blend of smoky, tangy, savory and slightly sweet….basically spreadable bacony goodness!  USDA approved.

The first thing I was concerned about was the fat content.  I do not know what the caloric information is of this product, but I want to tell you that whatever calories/fat this item has, it is worth it!  This item is flavorful, and not once did I feel like I was sabotaging my diet.  I suppose that if I ate the entire contents of the container in one sitting, I might be overdoing it, but I can assure you I would not do that.

My first use of this product was on a hot dog (of all things, I know!).  I really thought it gave lots of good flavor to the hot dog.  It was not overly strong, but the taste seemed just right.  My mom agreed very strongly when she tried it on her hot dog as well.

The second time I used it was when I was making up a hash brown skillet side dish a few days ago.  I had all sorts of vegetables frying up with the hash browns, and I thought that this bacon jam would give these bland veggies a little flavor.  Again, I was right!  In fact, I truly should have added more.  Next time, I will.

My favorite thing about this product is that it is made in the Pacific Northwest!  I always love finding new products from the area, and it makes me want to promote this product even more.

So if you get a chance, take a closer look at this product here.  You'll be glad you did!

I received one or more of the products mentioned above for free using Tomoson.com. Regardless, I only recommend products or services I use personally and believe will be good for my readers.

Solution Sunday--Cankermelts Review

For as long as I can remember, I have suffered with mouth ailments.  Cold sores were the first ones I had.  I can remember using all the topical ointments to cure them.  I found that if I didn't scratch the corner of my mouth, they wouldn't come.  Sounds  strange, but I have not had a genuine cold sore in ages.

I wish I could say the same for canker sores.  I can't remember when I first suffered with these, but I would say I was a teen the first time.  Maybe even younger.  No matter what I did, I tended to get them.  It got so bad this year that I began taking a load of Lysine, and that at least seemed to help.  Before that time, I was averaging canker sores twice a month.  I found that stress and hormones tended to bring them on.  I even had a mouth yeast infection.  That was, by far, the worst!

I can remember running across product reviews at this time for the product cankermelts.  The sore underneath my tongue was so horrible that I was desperate.  I can remember trying this  product and being somewhat impressed.  I think that by the time I used this, my mouth sore was already healing.

I never forgot about cankermelts.  I have been known to give them on occasion to my daughter, but she is so difficult to figure out that I could not tell you if they helped her or  not.

Recently, I had my first canker sore in quite some time, and I was looking for my normal medication a few nights ago.  I saw cankermelts, and decided it was time to try it again.  I have to admit I was somewhat skeptical.  There was not much change the first night, but I have now used this medicine 3 nights in succession, and my sore is nearly gone. I have to say that  after the second application, I truly began to see the healing process begin.

There are several things I like about cankermelts.  I love the fact that you use it at night,  My only complaint is that it is not effective to use it during the day.  I love the fact  that this does not burn when you put it on, and it is good to know that there areno harsh chemicals.  It is all natural--licorice root is the ingredient the active ingredient along with collagen.  I am so glad to know that you can buy these at just about any drugstore as well as grocery stores.  Be sure to check out where you can buy yours today!

Just so you will know, I was not asked to write this review nor compensated in any way.  All opinions are one hundred percent my own!

Solution Sunday--Tropical Traditions Review

Several months ago, I discovered a fantastic site for truly organic, responsibly produced items for consumption and household use.  It is an online store called Tropical Traditions.  I  was first introduced to them through several blog giveaways that I won, and I have to admit that I was instantly hooked.

The first thing of theirs that I ever tried  was their shredded coconut.
I was first impressed by the size of the package that came (and how hard it was to get open, so I knew it was fresh!).  It replaced all the coconut that I used for cooking, and of course, this is one of tropical traditions' signature items.  Indeed, it was nice to have organic coconut that was not sweetened (like we normally get in the store).  It has become something I use on a regular basis, and I doubt I will ever use the cheap stuff in the store again.

The next thing I had the privilege to try was their organic whole golden flaxseed.
I had never tasted flaxseed before, but I tell you, I am hooked!  At least on their flaxseed.  I made the mistake of getting some recently that was not made by them, and I have  to admit that I regret it.  I was happy to add their flaxseed to my cereal,  my yogurt, and even my toast in the morning.  The flavor and crunch that their flaxseed provides (besides the health benefits) is definitely worth it!

The third item I won from them was their Canadian Raw Honey.
This item is a favorite of mine and my Mom's.  It is a cream honey, and the flavor is absolutely extraordinary. It is the only honey I will use.  I'm sure I will have to order some more some time soon.

Those are the only three items I have won that I have actually had a chance to use, but there were items that I really wanted to try that I never saw in a giveaway--or at least, I hadn't won!  I had signed up for their e-mails long ago, but I had yet to order from them.

As I was reading various blogs last weekend, I was pleased to find a free shipping deal from them.  I figured that I was tired of waiting, and it was time to place my first real order.  So I did.  The best part was that they accept paypal, and I was able to pay for half of my order with my paypal balance.

So what did I order?

I have not tried the vanilla yet, but the other items are fantastic!  The chocolate has the be the best dark chocolate I have ever tasted!  And as for the coconut peanut butter, once you make sure it is stirred, it is  pretty fantastic!  And it is healthier than most peanut butters out there.

So what is my verdict?  Well, I will say that Tropical Traditions is a fantastic company that offers a great variety of organic, environmentally responsible company.  Yes, you will pay a little bit more, but I have to say that it felt good to be sending my money their way.  I wish more companies would take this company's lead!

For your information, I was not compensated for this review in any way.  All opinions expressed are 100 percent mine.

Solution Sunday--Wanchai Ferry Dry Dinner Kit Review

Yesterday was my daughter's birthday party.  She and I have the same birthday (June13), but her party was on the 11th.  It went very well, but I knew I wouldn't be up for cooking after the party.  I had intended to make a crock pot meal, but I forgot to soak the beans.  Okay, I know I could have gone with a quick soak, but I also know that it is not the best way.  And anyway, I had some quick meals on hand.

I had bought a Wanchai Ferry and Macaroni Grill dry dinner kit a while back--I had some good coupons.  I just had not tried either of them.  That was until yesterday.

In the morning, I pulled out a Wanchai Ferry Cashew Chicken Dry Dinner kit from the pantry and some chicken that needed using up.  I am glad I planned ahead because after the party, I was so tired.  I almost thought about giving up and just going with a sandwich, but I decided that I would just get busy and cook it.

I was quite impressed from the beginning.  It was so simple.  I just dumped the water in the rice, and it cooked easily.  Then I had to cut the chicken up and put it in a bag with the seasoned cornstarch.  While I did that, put the oil in the skillet.  I poured the chicken in the heated skillet, and I was pretty impressed with how nicely the chicken seemed to cook.  And the aroma was heavenly.

Then the "piece de resistance"!  Following the directions, I poured the cashew sauce in the pan, and my thought was, "This is just like what you get in the restaurant."  I added the water.  The rice was already cooked.  I scurried to steam the veggies, and then the cashew chicken was done.  I topped it off with the provided roasted cashews.

When I served the meal, I mixed my cashew chicken with the steamed veggies I had made (a frozen Normandy mix from Walmart).  I was absolutely amazed at the meal--as was the rest of my family.  And dinner was ready in less than a half hour!

This is the first time I have ever fixed any kind of Wanchai Ferry dinner kit.  I have seen the ads, and I think I have even seen some  reviews on their products.  But this was a first for me.  And the only negative comment I had was that there was not any more of it!  I would have loved to have had leftovers for lunch today.

So if you have not had a chance to try Wanchai Ferry meals, hurry out to the store and pick one up for your next quick meal!

By the way, I received nothing for doing this review.  All of my opinions are completely my own.

Solution Sunday--On a Personal Note Tonight

I want to apologize to my readers first of all--I know I have not been as consistent the past week.  I have been a very busy person.  School is getting ready to be done.  A couple more weeks, and my daughter and I are both out.  Things have been quiet, but I have been trying so hard to keep up with everything--giveaways, meals, e-mails, etc.  I will try to do better, but I am glad to know if I am unable to blog one night, you will understand.

Secondly, I am in the middle of a wonderful study right now:
Hidden Joy in a Dark Corner: The Transforming Power of God's Story  It has been years since I have done a women's Bible study.  I am  a trained Precept leader (Kay Arthur study, precept upon precept), and I have led one study.  I was always active in women's Bible studies--from the time I was a teenager.  But in recent times, I have tried to do it, and I have always run out of steam.

This study is through Proverbs 31 Ministries.   While I have not gone through the horror described in the book nor anything similar to it, I believe that all of us have gone through trials and tribulations that have left some kind of scarring.  Over 3,000 women have signed up for this study, and Melissa Taylor is the leader.  You can click on her name in the previous sentence to be connected with her blog.  And by the way, it is not too late to sign up.  I was fortunate to receive my book before the study.  Some are just getting theirs.  And the author of the book autographs each book personally if you order it directly through Proverbs 31.

What I have discovered recently is that I am learning to keep my mouth shut.  Anyone who really knows me knows that I do speak out--sometimes without thinking.  If you meet me the first time, you probably would think I am quiet and shy.  However, it doesn't take long, and I become rather talkative if you get me on the right subject.  I have discovered that my mouth is what often has gotten me into trouble around here.  I get involved in situations between my mom and dad which cause the situation to escalate.  I discovered that Martin often would get me going about my dad, and I became rather negative.  My speech has not always been what it should.  Yes, I have been known to say a few words here and there not becoming to a Christian woman. And God's  Word got through to me loud and clear today in church.  By the grace of God, my mouth will not get the better of me.  After all, isn't it true that if a man can tame his tongue, the whole body can be brought under control?  That is what the book of James says.

And finally, once school it out, I am going to get caught up on recording my various challenge updates.  I will be able to figure out then how well I am or am not doing.  I have read a load of books, and many of those books do figure into my challenges.  I just need to officially enter them.

I want to also thank everyone who has been faithfully following my blog.  I am excited to realize that I am well over the 400 followers mark, and that is all with not even a year of active blogging.  I have to look up when my exact "blogoversary" would be.

Thanks again!

Solution Sunday--EcoSafe Kitchen Compost Catcher Review

We received a wonderful product in the mail this week from drugstore.com.

Within the past month or so, we have begun composting our food waste.  Until this week, we were using just a basic plastic bag, and to be perfectly honest, it was a pain!  The bag was always getting in the way, and we had to remember to tie and untie the bag each time.

My mom had asked me for a while now to look online and find something that would work better for our kitchen compost.  I saw all sorts of compost bins, but when I found this one at such a reasonable price ($9.99), I figured it would be ideal for us.  After all, it is dishwasher safe, has a lid that snaps closed, and has a nice handle for transporting it back and forth.  So we ordered it!

Since it arrived, we couldn't be happier.  The clasp is a little stiff now and then, but once it snaps down, it actually works.  It keeps out the smells and the bugs.  And it holds a lot!

I really like the company website.  Their slogan is "ZERO WASTE."  While I am not an over-the-top environmentalist, as a Christian, I do believe that God charged humanity to take care of this earth.  So I feel that when I do something "green" like this, I really feel good about it.

Just so you know, I was not compensated in any way for this post, and all comments in this post are completely my own views.

Solution Sunday--Watch My Giveaways!

For those of you who follow my blog closely, you might have noticed that my giveaways suddenly got extended. Well, I have a big giveaway coming up Tuesday night, and I thought that it would make more sense to have the giveaways end at roughly the same time.  So now three of them end the end of this month.

It has been a hard weekend, but God got me through.  No, not because the world has ended or I was worried about that.  It is mainly home stress yet again.

I am looking forward to getting my big giveaway out there.  I know my blog traffic has been down lately, but I am not worried.  It is bound to go up this week, and I can hardly wait to really give this blog the love it really needs.  The summer is coming, and I plan to give this blog all the love it needs.  And I guess my year blogoversary must be coming up some time soon.  I have a lot to think about.  For now, have a good evening, and check out my giveaways!

Solution Sunday--I Have Been Busy

This has been a very successful weekend for me.  I can see the floor of my bedroom for the first time in weeks!  At this point, I do not plan on rejoining the 52-week organizing challenge, but I do plan to set some goals for myself as the summer comes.

This site is back in my life again.  I examined all my options, and this is the website that I keep going back to.  They have the easiest online food diary, and they even have a mobile web app for smart phones.  I need to update my sparkpage, but here is the link for now.  You can see where I came from!  I did lost about one to one and a half pounds this past week, and hopefully I will be just as successful this week.

Now to my other challenges.  When did I last update you?  I do not remember!  I am behind on updating.

I believe I can link up the following reviews in addition to reading Revelation and reading Crosswalk devotionals.

I cannot link up there yet, but this book counts for this challenge too:

I can finally get around to linking this review up for this challenge:

I will be updating my map for this challenge right after this post is published, so check it out.

I guess I wasn't as far behind as I thought.  So another week is before me.  Very early risings all week, but I have a week long job, so I can't really complain.

I Think God Knew I Needed Encouragement

I know I should be updating my challenges, but I have to admit I am not in the mood.  In fact, I think I may reduce my number of challenge updates to once a month rather than weekly--it seems to make more sense.  I am no longer officially in the 52 week organizing challenge, but that is okay.  But then I may want to update my progress weekly on my diet, so we'll see what happens.

Today, as I was riding in the car to lunch after church, I thought I would take a look at my blog.  I was telling my mom that my blog had been so silent the past few days.  No one seems to want to enter my giveaways, and it just feels like my blog is experiencing a slump--just when it seemed like it was taking off.

Right after I said that, I checked my comments and noticed a new one.  Let me give me the background.  I had reviewed a fantastic book on Friday evening, and I thought I would drop the author a line on her facebook and twitter account just to let her know.  I have never done anything like that.  I have contacted companies about offering things for giveaways, but not an author.  I was so moved by the story, and I just thought it would be nice to let her know.

Guess who wrote on my blog!  The author, Jane Kirkpatrick, herself! And it was the sweetest comment in the world!  What a Mother's Day present for me.  When an author tells you that they appreciate your review, it really makes you feel good!  All I could think about was how to repay her for her kind words.  If I had the money, I would buy a book and make it available to my readers as a giveaway, but I just don't have the money right now.  It certainly made me realize that even small-time bloggers like me can make a difference.

God continued to offer me encouragement.  And trust me, I needed it in light of family issues!  I got my hair cut today, and the lady who cut my hair was very nice and talkative.  I often get ladies who don't even have a tongue in their head, and I am not kidding.  But this lady was really nice.  We talked--well, I talked about teaching and subbing and students and on and on.  Towards the end of the haircut, the lady said that the school system was very lucky to have me.  She said she had spoken to several teachers, and I was definitely good for the school system and she thanked me.  I cannot recall any time that I was thanked like that for being a teacher--even when I was a real teacher!

So today things look better.  While we have plumbing issues, family issues, friend issues, daughter issues, father issues, and so much more, God has at least allowed me a couple times today to feel good about who I am.  Yesterday when I looked at the mirror, I looked older than my years.  What a difference a day makes!

Solution Sunday--Fitness/Weight Loss Jumpstart Giveaway (ends 5/31) (CLOSED)

Well, I figured it is time for another giveaway.  If you read last night's post, you would know that I am in the process of beginning to lose weight again.  I won't really start in earnest until next week, but I making the preparations this week.  I'm sure many of you are in similar positions.  Summer is coming after all.

So while out shopping today, I picked up a few things to help you get started.

All of us know the benefits of tea, and with the brand Organics, how could you go wrong?  There are 20 tea bags in this box.

I had not heard of this, but everyone knows the importance of breakfast.  This is fairly high in protein and fiber.  I like oatmeal, and I am sure this would be good!

Different flavor--I got raspberry lemonade--but I love this stuff!  I am not loyal to brands, and I find that adding flavoring to water does help when I am tired of drinking water.  And this is sugar-free!

I had heard about these from fellow bloggers--Raisels!  I like raisins, but the flavoring they have added--in this case, sour peach--makes these a wonderful treat!  I was able to include one box.

And one package of each of the following Orville Redenbacher's microwave popcorn:

So there you have it--not much, but it is something to get you started.  This giveaway is open until May 31 at 9 P.M. Pacific Time.  Please include you e-mail address or make it available.  Please leave a separate comment for each entry.

Solution Sunday--On Monday

I am actually not going to post for Music Monday--I am in the middle of listening to 2 CD's, and I have some ideas I think I'll pass on to you later this week.  But for tonight, I will update you on my challenges.  I have nothing to update you on my organizing challenge, but I think I have some things to write about my reading challenges.

I am still in Revelation Chapter 1 but learning a lot.  I think when I am through the first chapter of Revelation, I'll post what I am learning.  I am fascinated!

Here is my review of this book I finished last week.  It may not be specifically historical fiction, but I see it as such.

And here's the link to this review that completes the number portion of this challenge.

Thank you for your patience.  Next weekend, I will update my progress completely on all current challenges. Thanks!

Solution Sunday--Challenge Update, Not a Whole Lot But Better Than Nothing

I have two challenges to update tonight.  I am very busy reading books for other challenges, but here is what happened this week.

No, I do not have my pictures ready yet, but I am happy to report that I am still working very hard on my room.  I hoped to have it done this weekend, but I took my daughter to an Easter Egg Hunt, and then we went to see Soul Surfer (She got sick during it, and we had to leave).  Then I did a 4-hour shopping trip today for my family.  So therefore I didn't get as much done as I would like, but my dressers are organized inside, and my closet has only a couple hot spots yet.  So I am pretty excited about my progress.

As to this week, my plan is to finally finish the left side of my room.  I will then take a picture of it and show you the before and after pictures.  I know that it is best to have pictures every week.  I know I always look for the pictures.  But for some reason, I struggle to get into the habit of taking pictures for my blog.  Maybe I can start the habit this summer so I can continue it when I got back to work.  Forgive my negligence.  Blogging is still a novelty for me.
