The Secret of Maggie's SwampThe Secret of Maggie's Swamp by Paul A Barra
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This has to be one of the best middle-grade fiction books I have read in a long time.  I was completely immersed in the story from the very beginning, and I couldn't be happier with the story, characters, setting, and outcome.

First of all, there is absolutely nothing inappropriate in this book.  In fact, it is clear that the author has some church background since God plays a prominent role in the characters' lives.  This is a book I would love to share with my daughter (maybe this summer).

I found the mix of mystery, story, characterization, and lessons in the story quite admirable.  The writing style is fantastic, and there is not a moment where the action lags.  All too often, it takes me a while to get into books like this, but I have to say that I was hooked from the first page.

I love the fact that the main character is a girl named Penelope that is most concerned about doing what is right.  She obeys her parents (imagine!), and she seeks to find the truth in every situation.  No, she is not perfect, but she is a great role model for kids at this age.  That's why I know my daughter would love this book!

I was sent a copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.  I was not financially compensated, and all opinions are 100 percent mine.
