This Day in History March 22, 1979

What a sad remembrance for the UK.  On this date in 1979, British ambassador to Holland, Sir Richard Sykes, was assassinated by the IRA.  He and his footman had left Sykes' residence, and they were headed to the 5-minute drive to the embassy.  They were both shot in the head, and both died at the hospital.  At first, no one knew anything about who had done this horrible deed.  It seemed to be carried out by the IRA, and I struggle to find out if someone  was finally arrested for this deed.
