Payne & Misery (A Christine Sterling Mystery, #1)Payne & Misery by Catherine Leggitt
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I can't tell you how much I enjoyed this mystery! I can hardly wait to read the others in the series, and I have already told my mom that she has to read this book next.  This is the kind of mystery book that is somewhat reminiscent of Miss Marple and Rear Window.  Put all that together with living out in the country, a nosy neighbor, and a curious dog, and you have the things that contribute to an amazing mystery book.  This is definitely a cozy, clean mystery.  No sex nor profanity of any kind.  It is suitable for all ages but will probably resonate more with mature adults (do I qualify to be in that group?)

What I loved best about the mystery was that just when you thought you might have it solved, the author throws in another twist that you may not have seen coming.  I was proud of myself for figuring out much of the mystery, but the author still manage to surprise me on more than one occasion.  I found myself so in tune with the characters that there were times I was glad no one else was around.  I tend to get vocally involved with stories.

I also appreciated the fact that God plays a central role in the story.  There were several strong messages in the book concerning spiritual things without being preachy.  It's good to know that God even cares about solving a mystery.  I've never seen characters in a mystery turn to God for guidance.

I was sent a copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.  I was not financially compensated, and all opinions are 100 percent mine.
