Thoughtful Thursday--Hearts Against Hunger

Matthew 25:31-46

New International Version (NIV)
The Sheep and the Goats
31 “When the Son of Man comes in his glory, and all the angels with him, he will sit on his glorious throne. 32 All the nations will be gathered before him, and he will separate the people one from another as a shepherd separates the sheep from the goats. 33 He will put the sheep on his right and the goats on his left.
34 “Then the King will say to those on his right, ‘Come, you who are blessed by my Father; take your inheritance, the kingdom prepared for you since the creation of the world. 35For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, 36 I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me.’
37 “Then the righteous will answer him, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you something to drink? 38 When did we see you a stranger and invite you in, or needing clothes and clothe you? 39 When did we see you sick or in prison and go to visit you?’
40 “The King will reply, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.’
41 “Then he will say to those on his left, ‘Depart from me, you who are cursed, into the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his angels. 42 For I was hungry and you gave me nothing to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me nothing to drink, 43 I was a stranger and you did not invite me in, I needed clothes and you did not clothe me, I was sick and in prison and you did not look after me.’
44 “They also will answer, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry or thirsty or a stranger or needing clothes or sick or in prison, and did not help you?’
45 “He will reply, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did not do for one of the least of these, you did not do for me.’
46 “Then they will go away to eternal punishment, but the righteous to eternal life.”

I don't know about you but sometimes I become rather egocentric, especially when money seems to be the kind of issue it is now.  There is so much uncertainty in the world, and I often think about my needs and my wants.

Sometimes, we want to help, but we don't know where to turn.  We might be afraid that our money will be misguided or that people with genuine needs will not be served.  And then sometimes we wonder if we can afford to help others.

Let me direct you to Christ's words above--When you have done it unto the least of these my brethren, you have done it unto Me.  Who are the least of these?  Anyone who is in need.  Anyone who is suffering, who is hurting--look at who Christ mentions:  hospitals, jails, naked, hungry.  You know what, I am not in any of the situations mentioned.

Now suppose that there was a simple way to make a difference in people's lives.  Suppose it was through a reputable organization, and it was easy!

Melanie over at Only a Breath has given you a way to do just that.  Hearts Against Hunger is a grass-roots effort to raise money for children who are hungry. Many bloggers, including Only A Breath, Time-Warp WifeMagnolia GraceTammy’s Two Cents, and Faithful Always are joining together in the fight against hunger! I want to say a HUGE “THANK YOU” to these bloggers for being so willing to raise awareness of childhood hunger!

We need your help! Please get involved today!

YES! I will donate only $1 to provide 7 meals for a hungry child!

To get involved, please donate at either of the links below. If you would like to join our “Hearts Against Hunger” list, please email me at Melanie (at) OnlyABreath (dot) com and let me know that you are spreading the word about our food drive (either through your own blog, Facebook, Twitter, email, snail mail — we’re not picky!)
Please grab our button from the sidebar, link back to this page, and spread the word!
Please donate now at Feeding America — our goal is $1500 which will provide 10500 meals!!!
In addition to this, when I donated (I did give $10), I was able to donate through Amazon payments.  That was an option at checkout, and it made things so easy!  While I may not have given much, I knew that God wanted me to give, and I am so glad led me this way!
