This Day in History January 21, 1984

I have to admit that Jackie Wilson is not someone I have ever heard of before.  But he was one of the first R & B singers to become successful in the rock and roll industry.  He was a two-time Grammy Hall of Fame inductee, and he enjoyed success in a music group and as a solo singer.

On September 29, 1975, Dick Clark featured him on his Good Ol' Rock and Roll Revue.  He was in the middle of singing Lonely Teardrops (song featured in the video above).  He collapsed on stage, and the audience thought it was a part of the show.  He had suffered a heart attack, and he was revived.  However, he never fully recovered consciousness, and on this date in 1984, he died from complications of pneumonia.  At first, he was buried in an unmarked grave, but later in 1987, a fundraiser was held later to raise money for a headstone.
