This is a book that kept getting put on the shelf, but I am so glad I finally got a chance to read and review it. Better late than never, I always say!
America is seeing a shift in how Christianity is portrayed in the media. From Christ- following superstars like Tim Tebow and Jeremy Lin to the remarkable story of love and commitment that inspired the hit movie “The Vow,” public profession of faith is drawing attention. But how would our culture change if the entire Christian community started actively, intentionally living out the gospel: a rebellion against the rebellion.
Leading Christian researcher and author Ed Stetzer advocates for this radical way of living out one’s beliefs in his new book, Subversive Kingdom: Living as Agents of Gospel Transformation (B&H Publishing Group, May 2012). Stetzer says radically giving of one's self through word and deed is how Christ intended Christians to rebel against the darkness of the world and live on mission.
My rating: 5 of 5 stars
I am so appreciative of Christian books that really make you stop and think, and this is definitely one of them. The author continues to bring you back to the Bible, and he reminds you of our purpose in this world. It has nothing to do with getting everyone to like us and feel good. Our mission is to shake things up a bit. The enemy actively controls this world, and we are in a war against his powers. We are called to live a life like Christ and glorify Him in this world.
This is a heavy book, and it is meant to be digested slowly. This first reading was so overwhelming that I plan to keep this around and digest it in small pieces. And it shouldn't surprise us that this is a deep book. After all, this is from the guy who read the World Book encyclopedia for fun as a child! (Not kidding--check it out!) I would recommend this book to believers who truly want to go deeper in their relationship with God.
I was sent a copy of this book in exchange for my honest review. I was not financially compensated, and all opinions are 100 percent mine.
