Trenton High. From there went to wrok for Mercer County Elections Office. Most recently she has retired and relocated to the Bristol VA/TN area. Her passion and love has always been music and she will jokingly tell you that she is a professional listener. With a vast collection of over 500 artists, she has a

Hi and thank you for having me. I would like to encourage other authors to try self-publishing. I am surprised, but in my experience, I have found that being self-published does not discredit one’s work. Sure, there are still many who feel that a self-published book has less merit than one that has the traditional backing.

However only 1% of new authors are chosen each year by the large publishers. This is usually due to the fact that a publisher only deals with authors who have an agent, and agents won’t represent you unless you’ve been published before. I call this the CIRCLE effect. How can an unknown author find that ever so slight opening? So IF an author truly wants to see their efforts in print, they have no other choice but to become self-published.

There are several advantages to being your own agent/publisher. You decide on the content of the story, and how, where, and when it will be available to the public. Another great benefit is that you can choose your own “in-person” publicity, i.e. city, venue, time and then don’t forget the business expense deduction for your travel, food, and lodging.

The Internet has opened up wonderful new opportunities for new authors to reach their audiences. I am still learning about promotion every day because I want as many people as possible to read and enjoy my stories. I know it’s a challenge, but anything worthwhile is worth pursuing.
