This Day in History January 9, 1799

Well, it was on this date in 1799, that income tax was introduced in the UK.  Isn't that nice to know?  Napoleon was in control of much of Europe, and money was needed to stand against him.  The tax rate was ten percent for those who made income  60 pounds and up, and no more than two shillings on income above 200 pounds.  Sounds pretty good, right?
