This Day in History February 24, 1946

Juan Peron con banda de presidente

I loved the musical Evita, and on this date in 1946, the real Juan Peron was elected president of Argentina.  Eva Peron, his wife, was his best political asset, and of course, there is much controversy surrounding her and her husband's political life.  In fact, the people of Argentina still revere her, and they want nothing to do with the musical that is loosely based upon her life.  I have done a lot of reading about her and her husband, and I am not here to judge them, but I know that he did become increasingly more dictatorial as his presidency continued.  And I still have no doubt that she used whatever means possible to get ahead.  I know that no movie nor musical can tell the complete story of one's life, I still say it is a worthwhile production.  Side note--this is the only time I liked Madonna.
