I should have known when he walked into my life that things would never be the same. Hadn't I dreamed of him and the things he'd done before I was born? If only he weren't so fascinating, so beautiful, so much more than any other guy. Maybe then I could walk away.

Mairin Cote is a magnet for weird. Her dreams come true, she can see auras and her mother is in love with an angel. Now the monsters are finding her too. Vampires, demigods and werepanthers have flocked to this small town girl who must find a way to keep her family safe, love the man of her dreams, and navigate the shark-infested waters of Highland Home High School.

My first kiss was going to be my last, but it was worth it. His cool lips, his sweet taste, they were my salvation. I would never regret it, no matter what happened.

Mairin Cote thought loving a vampire was hard, but losing him to others of his kind was worse. When the death toll in East Hampton points to a rampaging vampire, the vampires and werepanthers must form an uneasy alliance to stop the destruction. To save the love of her life, Mairin must decide if living life without Mathias is worth risking an eternity with him.

The pain was sharp and deep, but it was nothing compared to the anguish in Xavier's eyes. I wanted to tell him I would be okay, but the words wouldn't come. The pain kept them at bay and even if I could have spoken, I knew the words would be a lie.

Kerry Cote has a pretty normal life for a teenager. Of course normal is a relative term. Her sister dates a vampire and her boyfriend turns furry once a month, but that's not the problem. It isn't until she meets the father of the man she loves that her whole existence narrows to a mere seven days.

Title: Banished Sun (Book 4, Highland Home Series)
Author: Shari Richardson
Publisher: Astral Plane Publishing
Genres: Paranormal YA

BLURB:
Eternity. How many times since Mathias came into my life had I considered it? Had I not taken risks that would have left us together for eternity? What I hadn't expected was to have the choice taken from us. Vampires are independent creatures and the old ones definitely don't like being bound to a human. When an ancient vampire comes to Highland Home bent on Mairin's destruction so he can free himself from his bond to her, Mathias is forced to choose between what he is and who he wishes to be.

Title: Nine Lives (Book 5, Highland Home Series)
Author: Shari Richardson
Publisher: Astral Plane Publishing
Genres: Paranormal YA

BLURB:

Kerry Cote's story may sound familiar, but it's not. Sure there are a lot of unmarried, pregnant teenagers in the world, but how many of them know the child they carry is a miracle? How many have a vampire body guard? How many are alone because the mother of us all and the father of all vampires has a jealous daughter who covets the baby's father? Kerry must survive to bring her child into the world, for if she fails, humanity may not survive.

Praise for this series!

4.0 out of 5 stars Good First Book In A Series August 2, 2011

A good paranormal romance. There are only two things I would change about this book. First, I wish Mathias would speak more like someone from current times than someone from a Jane Austen book. His use of formal speak only makes him stand out from those around him. Secondly, since all vampire books will be compared to Twilight, I wish authors would try to not use any of the same lines from Twilight. I think I've heard the phrase "I don't have the strength to stay away from you", or some version of it a thousand times. Other than that, this book is a good story, which sets up for the rest of the series. It has some of the same elements people have read before in paranormal romance, with a little that makes it unique. I look forward to reading what will happen to Mathias and Mairin in the coming books.

Oh this book. I have to tell you all, I just stumbled across this book on goodreads one night. It looked pretty okay and then I saw it on nook shop for only 99 cents. I thought what the heck, it is cheap and could be pretty good.

Was it ever.

This book immediately opens up with Mairin's (which is an amazing name by the way) dream of this young Woman who is by the death bed of her lover. He is dying and she just can not bear it. This man then proceeds to die and break her heart....only to open his eyes a few moments later and drain the blood from her. Only once his bloodlust is quenched does he finally come to and realize what he has done to the only woman he has ever loved. He then promises to think of her everyday from there on out.

First off was that not an amazing way to hook your reader from page one?! I think so readers! That opening scene is what had me immediately hooked. After the dream you get to really know the dreamer..Mairin. From the startyou a aware of her dreams. They are actually premonitions of what will happen, which would be crazy to actually have by the way. And once she steps into her first day of school and sees this beauty she has dreamed of and already felt a connection to was crazy!!! From the get go you are aware of this feeling between Mairin and Mathias(another amazing name!!) and want to know how it will pan out.

I really liked the fact that the reader got to know who Mathias really is from the first page. You are aware he is a vampire, but since it is in Mairin's dream you are not 100% sure that he is truly that. And you feel the pain Mairin feels when she finds out that he is truly a vampire....because no matter how many vampire books you may read I always find myself thinking "Would I really risk my life for this love I have with a FREAKING vampire?!" Because Mairin has always really truly known that he has been a vampire...she just never wanted to admit it after seeing Mathias because of this bond she has felt with him....Okay now I am babbling.

People....give this book a chance. It has vampires, dreaming premonitions, and much MUCH more. You will fall in love with it from page one just as I did. [:

I received an electronic copy of Mourning Sun for review. I have to say I was pleasantly surprised! Although quite short, the story was fantastic. It didn’t take long for me to be completely absorbed in Mairin’s life. It isn’t an entirely original concept, but the way Richardson writes it, with the little twists and turns, makes it fresh and exciting. I love the way she so cleverly worked certain real-life issues into the story, such as homosexuality and bullying. Even the decision Mairin must make regarding Mathias could be applied metaphorically to so many other situations in real life.
There were a few instances where I caught a little error here and there, or where I felt a little bit of editing could have cleaned something up a tiny bit. Overall, however, it was a very well written work. The plot was solid and everything flowed perfectly. The characters all had good chemistry even if the situations were rather awkward.
I appreciate the conciseness of the book, but I can see where the author could have really expanded and probably made it at least twice as long. I cannot really complain, however. It truly was a nice fluffy little read for me to devour on this dark, rainy day. I almost cried when it ended; I wanted to know so much more! I am enthusiastically looking forward to the next installment.
I definitely recommend Mourning Sun, and I want to thank Shari for being so generous and giving me the opportunity to review her book!

Mourning Sun is a quick easy read that draws you in with an interesting mix of characters. Though it started off a little slow the book really comes to life when Mairin, a girl who is a magnet for all things metaphysical, starts to learn the secrets of those around her. At the center of it all is Mathias, a vampire with a soul, and the love of her life. Unforuntely no one else can see how good he really is-including the angel that her mother is dating-and Mairin lets their judgements and the terrifying dreams that she has about him tear them apart.
Then a werepanther and a demigod burst onto the scene and things get intersting! Xavier, the werepanther, feels a deep sense of responsiblity to keeping the town safe and he thinks Mathias is a threat. Along with a not so nice demigod they go after Mathias.
The end of the book comes quickly-too quickly!-and the reader is left wondering what is going to happen next. When there is a town filled with so much paranormal you know that things are going to get interesting!
I will definitely be checking out Captured Sun, the second book of the Highland Home series, to see what's next for Mairin and Mathias!

Captured Sun is the 2nd book in the Highland Home Series. Again the beginning of the book had a twilight-y plot feel to it. But I love the genre so this doesn't bother me, however if you want a completely different type of vampire plot line you may want to make a different choice. That being said, I was so glad I stuck with it as I really enjoy the characters. Captured Sun again follows Matthias and Mairin who having defeated the demi-god in the last book are happy and in love. Mairin still is having prophetic dreams but this time it is of a vampire she cannot quite see killing people in East Hampton. The problem is that by the time she dreams of it and alerts the panther pride, it is always too late. Mairin is unable to sleep and can only sleep when Matthais sneaks in her room and holds her through the night. Let's face it--isn't that every girl's fantasy. This book introduces quite a few new characters such as Alfred who is the vampire that rescued Matthias and guided him so he feels as though Matthias is his son. Alfred's Maker Serina comes looking for him as it seems the bond between maker and vampire can actually create a strong almost slave like blood bond. She ends up capturing Matthias as a prize to keep Mairin and her family safe. She takes him to England to torture him as a slave. Mairin has dreams of his torture and defiance. She gets Alfred to help her go to England to save him. She almost dies for his freedom. When they come home Matthias does the whole you will be safer without me and leaves. What I really appreciate is that although brokenhearted. Mairin is mad and doesn't mind letting her feelings known to Matthias. I think this is much more realistic a reaction than Bella's just forgiving him right away. Also in this book, Kerry who is Mairin's little sister takes a much bigger role as a supporting character along with her boyfriend Xavier the leader of the pride. My only complaint is that I want to know more about Kerry and Xavier. Maybe a companion book or a couple of chapters from their point of view! I enjoyed the read and I am sucker for a happy ending. Also, it is hinted that Kerry and Mairin have big things in their future and are not quite human which continues to peak my interest.
I would recommend this for fans of the first book and fans of the Twilight series.

What can I say? I loved this book too!!!!!! It was great! I love Mairin! She is such a fun and loving and selfless person! The love she has for the people she cares about is admirable. And her and Mathias are sooo cute! I love them and was soo happy they got back together. I do want to know what is going on with Mairin and her sister. They obviously are something more than just human and I hope there is another book so we can find out what they are. Anyway I love this book and please let there be another one!!!!!!!!!!(less)
