Water Aid: Clean, Safe Water For All

I can't imagine a world where water is not safe.  Water is a large part of everything our household does.  We have a well, and we have to filer out water and treat it so it is safe.  When we had issues with water pressure or even water that is brown (though safe), our household has a tendency to complain.  And then I realize that  at least we have safe, clean water unlike so many in the world.

Worldwide eight hundred million people don't have access to clean, safe water.  Additionally, two and a half million people do not have safe, clean places to use the toilet.  I cannot imagine, can you?  Sadly, 2,000 children die every day from preventable diseases due to this issue, and an unbelievable amount of others cannot attend school.  Women cannot work because they have to go and fetch water as well as take care of sick children.

In 1981, Water Aid was founded, and it now has programs in 27 countries.  They work to see that the poorest people in the world are getting access to clean water and sanitation services.

As a result, 2,000 children die every day from easily prevented diarrheal diseases with countless more unable to attend school. Millions of women are unable to work because they spend so much time collecting water and caring for sick children.
Founded in 1981, WaterAid transforms lives by helping the world’s poorest people gain access to safe water and sanitation. Together with local organizations, communities and individuals, WaterAid uses affordable and locally appropriate solutions to provide safe water, effective sanitation and hygiene education to people in developing countries.
WaterAid has programs in 27 countries in Africa, Asia, the Pacific region and Central America, and offices in the US, the UK, Australia and Sweden.
