This Day in History March 16, 1963

I know the controversy surrounding this song, but honestly, I think it is a load of hooey.  I used to love this when I was growing up.  In fact, I saw the cartoon based on it.  And on this date in 1963, Peter, Paul, and Mary released Puff, the Magic Dragon.  And some stations refused to play it because it was assumed to be a drug/marijuana song.  I actually think it is a folk song/kid's song.  I have left a lot of links below for you to check out for yourself!

  1. I loved this song. I like to think of it as the kids fill song and not a drug song. Loved the movie too.

  2. I think it is a drug filled song if you get into it really deep. Even bugs bunny has deeper meaning. On the surface, it's a lovely little ditty and I enjoy it.

  4. It is just nice to see audience singing along. These days they just scream "BOOOO" and "YOU ARE DA FATHA"

  5. I used to sing that song all the time when I was a kid and no one freaked out. It wasn't until I was an adult that I learned the "other" meaning, lol.

  8. I associate it with my teen years. My mom loved this song and would sing it when we had the teen-attitude. It always brought a smile to my face.
