Kid's E-mail.Org Review and Giveaway--1 year membership/$75 (Ends 6/16) WW

KidsEmail
My daughter is almost nine, and she is a very social creature.  I know that it is only a matter of time before she gets active on facebook, chat room, e-mail, etc.  At this point, these things are not important to her, but I know that once middle school comes, things will change.  The thought of this can be overwhelming for a mother like me.

I have searched before for e-mail programs for kids.  She is technically not old enough to have a regular e-mail account.  I am a teacher, and it always irritates me when students tell me they are on facebook, and I am certain they are not old enough.  I am committed to my daughter having safe, age-appropriate experiences online.

I was so pleased to hear about Kid's E-mail.org.  This is a company that understands what parents want and need in an e-mail program.  Their features are better than anything I have seen elsewhere.  When you as the parent set up the account, you can turn on the features you want and turn off the ones you don't.  For example, you can filter out the bad words and receive a copy of every e-mail your child sends and receives.  You can block pictures, or you can allow them.  You can manage your child's contact list yourself, or they can.  With each feature, there is always a  recommendation, but you as the parent ultimately decide.

Perhaps you have a child that would spend 24/7 on the computer, and you would like to limit his/her activity. You as the parent can restrict your child's access.
You get to decide when your child is not allowed to log on.  I can't even tell you how great that is!  I could see my daughter getting up in the middle of the night and getting on her account (not this year, but in a few years).  She is a nightowl, and I don't look forward to the day when she can set up an account on facebook and I have to restrict that.  I wish facebook had a system like this!

Sometimes I do have to use technology as a form of discipline with my daughter.  She loves video games and other things like that.  This company has the greatest little tool--ground your child.  You can disable your child's account for a period of time, and you can even display a message to explain why your child's account is disabled.  I am definitely keeping this in mind as she becomes a teenager!

So what is in it for your kids?  Your kids can pick their own screen name, their own password, and even their own background.

This is one view of the various backgrounds, and there are several more!  I chose the kitten for my daughter (she is a cat-lover!).

What a fun-looking screen, eh?
I am hoping that this will get my daughter in contact with friends and family members who are not nearby.  We have lived in two states since she was born, and she has family members that live in other states who  she never sees.  She is not a good letter-writer (she gets that from me), but she loves typing.  So we'll see what happens.

My daughter has not actually tried this e-mail--I have it set up for her, but she probably won't completely use it till school is over.  I hope to show her tomorrow what I have set up for her.  I honestly think she will enjoy it.  I actually wonder if I should set up my own so that I could restrict my time on e-mail!  I often get side-tracked and spend way too much time answering and reading e-mails!

So you might be wondering how you can begin using this service.  Well, you are in luck.  They are offering one month membership free so you can explore their site and get used to it.  You won't even have to enter your credit card details.

Also, if you like them on facebook, you can  get a free e-book they are offering.  And while you are at it, be sure to follow them on twitter, too, for the latest updates!

Now to the giveaway. Our fantastic sponsor has agreed to give away one-year of membership with their site and a $75 USD gift card for Amazon or Paypal--winner will decide.  This giveaway will officially end June 16 at 9 P.M. Pacific time, and the entry method is a little different than most of my giveaways.

All you need to do is a leave a regular blog comment on this post telling me anything you would like to about this company and/or my review.  Please don't just say "enter me" or "nice review."  This needs to be a meaningful comment.  And after you comment on my blog, head over here and enter.

I'm going to be honest here.  I really would love for you to comment (only one comment per person) because the blog with the most comments gets a special reward--$25.  And I can promise you that my wonderful readers would benefit from that.  This can help me give you better giveaways.  So it is in your best interest to comment and to get your friends to do so as well.

This is a worldwide giveaway, and you only have until June 16!  So do it now!

I received this product through Karma Media in exchange for my honest review. I was not financially compensated, and all opinions are 100 percent mine.

  1. I completely understand you there, my youngest just turned 13 this last October, and she was so happy that she was allowed to finally have an email account. That and I allowed her to have a facebook account with set restrictions. 13 is the minimum age for FB, and they will delete the account for anyone younger than that.

I think that email 4 kids is great.
