This Day in History June 20, 1782

I truly found today's feature interesting.  It was on this date in 1782 that the design of the Great Seal of the U.S. was officially adopted by Congress.  Interestingly enough, Congress had discussed it for six years!  (Sounds familiar, doesn't it?)  Charles Thomas was the designer.  You can see that it depicts the bald eagle, and there are 13 stripes.  There is also a phrase:  E pluribus unum, a Latin phrase meaning "Out of Many One." 


You can find this seal in many places:  official document, back of the dollar bill, U.S. embassies and consulates, military uniform buttons, and many more places, I am sure.
