This Day in History November 20, 1789

The Bill of Rights is a document that provides important additional freedoms not expressly discussed in the Constitution of the United States.  There was concern that the federal government may be too strong as our country was just getting started.  And so on this date in 1789, New Jersey became the first state to ratify the Bill of Rights which originally consisted of ten amendments to the constitution.  It is this document that ensures freedom of religion, freedom of speech, and freedom to bear arms amongst other freedoms.  May the freedoms granted to us in this country never be taken for granted.
