This Day in History March 18, 1967

powered by Fotopedia

It was on this date in 1967, that Britain experienced its worst oil spill.  Torrey Canyon ran aground on Pollard's Rock between Land's End and the Isles of Scilly. It is estimated that 32 million gallons of crude oil was spilled.  And from what I can tell, it was not handled well either.  It's interesting to note that oil spills are nothing new.  But I had never heard of this.

  1. I had never heard of this either. So sad to think of the cost to the environment!
