This Day in History October 3, 1955

This is ironic!  Imagine having two Disney events in a row!  So here we go.

M-I-C-K-E-Y   M-O-U-S-E!

Ever heard that famous song?  Ever saw the original Mickey Mouse Club?  Oh, that was simpler time in our nation's history.  My mom and dad both grew up watching it.  My mom was quite a fan.  She used to sit and watch old movie musicals with me, and she could tell me that so-and-so was an original Mouseketeer.

On this day in 1955, the Mickey Mouse Club premiered on TV.  However, the Mouseketeers were first seen July 17, 1955 in accordance with the opening of Disneyland.  Walt Disney made sure that these kids were real kids--not actors.  They went to school 5 days a week on the Disney lot, and they became very close friends--still are today.  Very different from the New Mickey Mouse Club where the majority of them have done all sorts of things we don't need to mention here!

The show only ran for 3 years--360 episodes.  Another network wanted to pick it up, but Disney himself refused. There were originally 39 kids and 3 adults in the cast.  My favorite was always Annette.
