About the book:

With her own offbeat brand of wit and near-wisdom, inspirational humorist Debora Coty addresses heart needs of women struggling to tame that out-of-control inner beast that unexpectedly pounces, roaring and shredding, as it threatens to destroy the divinely beautiful princess hidden within. In More Beauty, Less Beast, women will find simple, practical techniques for embracing the true beauty rightfully theirs as cherished daughters of the King. Whether jaded by emotional wounds, unrealistic standards, or lack of confidence, this laugh-out-loud, girlfriend-to-girlfriend encouragement will help women transform their destructive inner beast into the exquisite beauty they were always meant to be.

About Debora Coty:

Debora Coty is an occupational therapist, a piano teacher, and a freelance writer. She's also involved in the children's ministry at her church and is an avid tennis player. Debora began writing to fill the void when her last child left for college, and it has since become a passion. Debora has a real knack for getting across sound biblical concepts with a refreshing lightheartedness as attested in her monthly newspaper column entitled "Grace Notes: God's Grace for Everyday Living."

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

As a woman who is quickly approaching the magical age of 40, I was quite pleased to read a book written by a woman who passed the 50-year-old mark and lived to tell about it! What makes this book even better is that the author does not hide behind the masks that so many Christian authors like to wear.  Debora Coty is a real woman who enjoys fashion, chocolate, and enjoying girl talk.  And yet the truth of her message is not lost.

I love the fact that this book covers every aspect of a Christian woman's life and shows these women practical ways to "make-over" that area of her life.  While every suggestion offered it not easy--I don't think change is ever easy nor is it not supposed to be--they are workable suggestions and solutions.  I love the various mnemonic devices she used when discussing certain areas and the witty sayings and anecdotes she sprinkled throughout the book.  I also truly loved the verses she used from the Message (a Bible translation).  The ones she chose really brought the messages of the Word home and were easily relate-able.

The only negative comment I have is that there was so much wisdom shared in this book that I could not get everything on the first read. There was so much to absorb that I feel I need to go back through the book at a much slower pace and actually answer the questions at the end of each chapter.  I would like to try some of her suggestions, but I will have to go back through the book and mark the ones I would like to try.  This would make a great "light" Bible study for ladies' groups to do together.  It is completely based on the Bible and its teachings.  I think any woman could glean great information from each section.

My favorite thing about the book is that Debora Coty was willing to say what most Christian women want to say but don't.  It's okay to be a Christian woman and want to look nice on the outside.  It is okay to wear make-up and the latest fashions.  The problem comes when outer beauty becomes your sole focus.  We should never elevate the position of outer beauty to a higher level than inner beauty.

I received a copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.  I was not financially compensated in any way, and all opinions are 100 percent mine.
