This Day in History October 14, 1840

The founder of the French art movement known as Impressionism was born on this date in 1840.  His name?  Claude Monet.  There is much to that could be written about him.  He rejected the traditional painting style and created this new style of painting.  And I read a fascinating book about him and relationship with Camille even though it is historical fiction.  His mother was a singer, and his father had a grocery business.  Monet did not follow his dad's wishes, and most of his famous water lilies paintings were painted while he was going blind.  He was very influential on the artist Edgar Degas.  He died of lung cancer on December 5, 1926.
