This Day in History August 10, 612 B.C.

I would venture to say that no one (or very few) would know the significance of this day.  This date in history saw the killing of Sinsharishkun, King of the Assyrian Empire and the destruction of Nineveh.   I will leave some links with further information about this, but you might remember Nineveh as the city which Jonah the prophet was sent to, and he ran from God.  He was swallowed by a big fish (traditionally a whale) and then vomited up 3 days later.  He went to Nineveh, and they repented.  He got mad.  But a later prophet, Nahum, prophesied the ultimate ruin of Nineveh.
'Woe to the city soaked in blood,
full of lies,
stuffed with booty,
whose plunderings know no end.

I (YAHWEH) mean to lift your skirts as high as your face
and show your nakedness to nations,
your shame to kingdoms.

I am going to pelt you with filth,
shame you, make you a public show.'
(Nah. 3:1, 5-6)

It is said that the king burned to death in his palace at the hand of his enemies, the Medes.  When you read of the wickedness of this place, you tend to understand.  And it seemed like once an empire rose, it didn't last too long.

You can find Nineveh up in the North.
