  1. I have a dog named Missy. I found her, or rather she found me when she was a puppy (about 3-4 months old). She was very tiny, only weighing in at 3 lbs. I think she's a minpin. I realized almost immediately that she was deaf, as she did not respond to sounds (she also startles very easily). She was very dirty and she had a bad case of fleas, mange, 2 types of worms, and I had to rush her to the emergency shortly after for pancreatitis. She has other health issues as well. My heart really went out to her, so there was no way I could give her up. She has a really unpleasant disposition at times to be honest lol. I love her regardless. I believe she was abused, and she was clearly neglected. It was difficult adjusting for all of us, especially because I had another dog at the time. My beloved Cody, he was already a senior, and Missy wasn't very friendly. But after a lot of work she later came to depend on him for his ears and companionship. And it became an even bigger adjustment for her (and myself) after he passed away at 16. Missy knows various signs, mostly ASL, for everyday commands. And we flip house lights to "call" her when she's out of viewing range- she knows to come running. She's almost just about 8 yrs old now. She loooves to play fetch. Has to be a ball though. And it's hard to get her out of the zone once she's in it. She even makes up games with objects around the house, with her ball to entertain herself. She's well loved and cared for. Spoiled even.

I also have two beautiful cats, a mother and daughter (also strays I took in- mom came with a litter of 6. Found good homes for all the kittens, but the one I kept) going on age 6 and 5. And two little hermit crabs that originally belonged to my brother and his gf, until they decided they were uninterested in continuing to care for them. So they brought them to me, and I've had them going on a year now. I swear I'm not an animal hoarder lol. (Nikki Marie on rafflecopter)

    1. Thanks so much for sharing! Wow! You have a great love for animals. No, you are not an animal hoarder. I think there is a difference between a hoarder and lover!

  3. I have FIVE Treeing Walker Coonhounds - all rescues. My senior girl, Suki, was adopted from a local rescue. My deaf girl, Ran, took a 10-hour round trip to southern Indiana to pick up. Over the course of one year, I adopted the three other long-distance - Kenji from Rutherfordton, NC; Kyoko from Greenville, SC; and Seiji from Whiteville, NC. Kenji was one of 30 dogs tied along the fence line of a guy who was involved in cock fighting. Kyoko arrived at the Greenville shelter weighing about half of what she should have weighed and filled with buckshot - she had been used for hunting and even now is extremely frightened of noises that sound like gunfire. Seiji was likely a hunting failure, too, and dumped at the shelter by a hunter. All five of my rescue dogs get along with my three cats (who were all found as strays and who we kept when we couldn't find the owners).

  8. I have an 8 year old Silkie Terrier named Porkchop. He got that name because when he was just 5 weeks old (with no teeth yet) his breeder dropped a porkchop in the pen where he, his mom and 3 sisters were. He grabbed that porkchop, dragged it over into a corner, threw a body block on his sisters,a growled at his mother when she came to get it. I knew right then that he was the one for me and his name had to be Porkchop. He is my heart and my youngest child. LOL

Thanks for being part of the hop and for the chance to win.
