Mom Bloggers for Social Good Weekly News--Newest Partners!

This week, new partners have joined mom bloggers for social good, and I thought I would take a moment and let you know about each of them and their missions!

First up is Shot At Life.  It might surprise you to know that 1.7 million children will die in developing nations merely because they do not have access to the life-saving vaccines that we in this country take for granted.  Shot at Life is a United Nations Foundation that champions the cause of vaccines worldwide.

Now, I know there is a lot of controversy surrounding vaccines even in this country.  My daughter did not get her first shot until she was 18 months, and even then, I wasn't so sure about it.  But I think that the statistics do show that vaccines are a way of protecting children from killer diseases.  It is true that those who don't get vaccines in this country basically benefit from those who do.  I cannot deny that.  And in developing countries, disease is much more rampant due to poor hygiene and living conditions.  So this is a cause that I have no problem promoting here.  Indeed a child's life can be saved every 20 seconds through a simple vaccine.

In addition to Shot at Life, another United Nations Foundation is Girl Up, and they are also a new partner.  Unfortunately, girls have struggled throughout history to have the same education and chance at life that boys do.  And in some countries, girls still don't get all the chances they should.  The stories are often heart-breaking.  They are committed to helping girls around the world become the next generation of world leaders.

And don't forget about last week's Action Campaign.   It is still going on!
