This Day in History December 23, 1888

powered by Fotopedia

It was on this date in 1888, that Vincent Van Gogh cut off a portion of his ear lobe.  It was quite a story.  He got into some kind of fight with Paul Gauguin, and he threatened him with a razor.  Van Gogh went kind of crazy and turned the knife on himself, cutting off a portion of his ear lobe.  He then took this part of his ear lobe to a local brothel and presented it to a prostitute.  He then went back to sleep in a blood-soaked bed.

Talk about crazy, I would say poor Van Gogh was having some kind of issues.  He was a troubled artist though very talented.
