Okay, moving along. Here is the information about the next book. It is not a review, but it is a giveaway. Here goes. I was contacted by PR by the book to review two fantastic devotionals.
From Thomas Nelson Publishers, the largest Christian publisher in the United States, comes a brand new, meaningful way of connecting with beloved writers Jane Austen and Charles Dickens: devotionals.
Thomas Nelson has combined the timeless words of Austen and Dickens with God's Word to offer wisdom and wit in two separate titles as a part of Thomas Nelson's new Devotional Classics series: A Charles Dickens Devotional (978-1-4003-1954-1, 224 pages, Cloth hardcover, $15.99) and A Jane Austen Devotional (978-1-4003-1953-4, 224 pages, Cloth hardcover, $15.99).
A Charles Dickens Devotional features some of Dickens' brightest gems: Great Expectations, A Tale of Two Cities,Oliver Twist, and A Christmas Carol, all of which are richly woven stories brimming with the fruits of the Spirit: love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness andself-control. Add in the topical devotional thoughts and you have an abundance of insight and guidance for faithful readers.
Shortexcerpts from Austen's classics are featured in A Jane Austen Devotional: Northanger Abbey, Pride & Prejudice,Sense & Sensibility, Persuasion, Mansfield Park, and Emma. Austen's devotional also includes a daily thought and Scripture that meaningfully translates to women's everyday lives. Time and time again, Austen shows us through her words what love truly is, a love based on Corinthians: built onaction, character, and honor.
While these authors may have lived hundreds of years ago, their stories still translate meaningfully to a modern Christian's daily life.
A Charles Dickens and A Jane Austen Devotional are available in stores in January 2012.
Secondly, I absolutely love classic authors. Jane Austen and Charles Dickens are some of my favorites. No, I have not read everything that they ever wrote, but I will tell you that their writings are some of the most influential and best fiction writing ever. People just don't write like that any more.
These books live up to everything that they promise. The writings are wonderful--I loved one of the early devotions that took a familiar passage from Pride and Prejudice. I won't spoil it for you. I was also impressed to discover that both authors had a lot of spiritual insight.
And now to the most important aspect of this review (for some). The books are absolutely gorgeous! Perfect for gift-giving. A little late for Christmas, I know, but perfect for the new year!
For the giveaway, they will be giving out hard copies to U.S. and Canada.. The giveaways end 9 P.M. Pacific time on December 27. Please enter in the rafflecopter form.
